SC holds 3rd extension of ED chief SK Mishra ‘illegal’, gives him July 31 deadline to relinquish office
The top court however affirmed amendments made to Delhi Special Police Establishment Act and Central Vigilance Commission Act which granted the Centre power to extend tenures of CBI, ED chiefs.

The apex court while reserving its judgement on pleas challenging the official’s extension has allowed Mishra to stay in his post till July 31. Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and Congress leader Randeep Surjewala were among the petitioners.

12. The Indian government is launching a groundbreaking initiative known as Nari Adalats, which are women-only courts established at the village level. These courts serve as alternative dispute resolution forums for issues such as domestic violence, property rights, and challenging the patriarchal system.

15. The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that the directors of CBI and ED can have a maximum tenure of five years. The court cited its 1997 verdict that the CBI Director shall have a minimum tenure of two years. It said that the tenure can be extended one year at a time “subject to the maximum period of five years”.

16. BJP has decided to field its Goa chief Sadanand Shet Tanavade for Rajya Sabha election from the state.

17. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Tuesday posted an update for the Chandrayaan-3 mission that is scheduled for July 14. “The ‘Launch Rehearsal’ simulating the entire launch preparation and process lasting 24 hours has been concluded,” the space agency tweeted. The mission is slated to launch at 2:35 pm from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

18. The Himachal Pradesh Public Service Competitive (Preliminary) Examination, which was scheduled to be held on July 23, has been postponed to August 20.

1. The National Investigation Agency today cracked down on the newly-floated offshoots of proscribed Pakistan-backed terrorist outfits operating in Jammu and Kashmir. The agency conducted raids at five locations in Anantnag, Shopian, and Pulwama and seized several digital devices containing massive incriminating data.

2. A fire broke out at Andhra Pradesh’s Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Plant in Nelatur of Nellore. Three fire engines rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire. No casualties have been reported so far.

3. Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi was admitted to a hospital in Punjab reportedly due to high fever, vomiting and stomach ache. He was taken to the emergency ward and later shifted to a private room. Bishnoi is alleged to be one of the key conspirators in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case.

4. The contract worker of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) was arrested by Ghaziabad Police for allegedly leaking intelligence documents and other information to a woman based in Pakistan’s Karachi. The accused Naveen Pal sent the information to the woman via WhatsApp.

5. The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday announced that it conducted searches at various places in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra in connection with a fake investment website scam. The agency seized cash worth ₹1.3 crore during the searches and froze bank accounts with ₹15.8 lakh balance.

6. Spain’s Navantia, Larsen & Toubro signed a Teaming Agreement in the premises of Spanish Embassy on July10, with the purpose of submission of a techno-commercial bid for the Indian Navy’s prestigious Project-75 (India) submarine program.

Project 75(I) of the Indian Navy requires the Indian bidder to tie up with foreign collaborator and execute the program for delivery of six conventional submarines equipped with Air-Independent Propulsion.

7. National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Tuesday said no religion is under any threat in India. “The philosophy of cooperation and dialogue in Islam has over the centuries merged seamlessly with the ancient Hindu civilisational tradition,” he added. “Despite having around 200 million Muslims, the involvement of Indian citizens in global terrorism has been incredibly low,” Doval said.
