8. India has reached a Total Fertility Rate (TFR) of 2.0, which aligns with the goals of the National Population Policy 2000 and the National Health Policy 2017 and the TFR target was set at 2.1.

11. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin arrived in Kerala yesterday for the inauguration of the renovated Periyar memorial in Vaikom today. The memorial celebrates the fight against social inequality and untouchability, the Vaikom Satyagraha, that forced the custodians of the Vaikom temple to open the doors to the common people.

Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu Sets Bold Growth Target with Vision Andhra-2047. he said that the Vision Andhra-2047 document sets a 50 percent growth rate target and requires district collectors to think differently and implement localised strategies. He highlighted the district-wise growth projections.

In Punjab, to ensure the well being of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs), the State Government is starting a major recruitment drive for filling up the backlog of vacant posts in various departments. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann while announcing the drive during a review meeting of Social Justice and Child Welfare Department said that so far 1754 posts through direct recruitment and 556 posts on promotion have been identified as a backlog of PwDs in various departments.

14. The Abathsahayeshwarar Temple in Thukkatchi, a 1,300-year-old Chola dynasty structure in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district, has gained international recognition by UNESCO’s 2023 Award of Distinction for its exceptional conservation efforts.

1. The National Investigative Agency (NIA) conducted searches in multiple locations of Punjab and Haryana. These searches were carried out in connection with the gangster-terror nexus case against operatives of the proscribed Khalistan Terrorist Force (KTF) outfit, including Canada-based Arsh Dala.

2. The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has taken suo motu cognisance of a media report that a seven-month-old baby was allegedly abducted from a footpath and sexually assaulted in Kolkata on the 30th of last month. The Commission has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police of West Bengal calling for a detailed report within two weeks.

3. A part of a 185-year-old mosque in Uttar Pradesh was demolished by local authorities on Tuesday. Reason: authorities claim the structure was encroaching on the Banda-Bahraich Highway.

1. Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel is currently on a four-day official visit to India, which began on 11 to 14 December 2024 Dec. The primary aim of this visit is to strengthen bilateral military cooperation and explore new avenues for defence collaboration between Nepal and India.

2. INS Nirdeshak to be commissioned on December 18 : It is the second ship of the Survey Vessel (Large) Project of the Indian Navy built by the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers.

Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth is scheduled to visit Visakhapatnam on December 18, to preside over the commissioning ceremony of INS Nirdeshak at the Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam.

3. BEML Limited has secured a significant contract from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of a 50-ton trailer, valued at ₹83.51 crore.

4. Zorawar’s trials are underway in Ladakh’s Nyoma region and the indigenously-developed light tank will be handed over to the Indian Army for user trials next year after current trials are completed.

7. The Supreme Court of India exercised its powers under Article 142 of the Constitution to grant permanent commission to a woman Army officer, Lt. Col., who had been unfairly excluded from the same benefits extended to her counterparts. This ruling highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure equal opportunities for women in the armed forces, reflecting the Court’s commitment to addressing discrimination based on gender.

The appellant, a commissioned officer in the Army Dental Corps in 2008, had been denied the third opportunity to apply for permanent commission, unlike other similarly situated officers. Despite the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) granting age relaxation to other applicants, the appellant was left out due to her non-involvement in a previous case. The Supreme Court, while setting aside the AFT’s decision, pointed out that denying her this benefit was discriminatory.
