DRDO plans New ELINT Satellite

1. The Parliament passed the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2025 with the Rajya Sabha approving it yesterday.

2. Parliament passes Merchant Shipping Bill to ensure compliance with maritime treaties. This Bill will replace the Merchant Shipping Act 1958.

3. Lok Sabha passed the Income Tax (No. 2) Bill, 2025 without debate, just hours after it was introduced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

4. FASTag Annual Pass, launched by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), will be available from 15 August 2025, offering convenience and cost savings for private vehicle owners.

5. The Parliament has also given its nod to the Manipur Budget 2025-26, the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Manipur Appropriation (No. 2) Bill, 2025.

6. Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chauhan transferred 3,900 crore rupees through Direct Benefit Transfer to over 35 lakh farmers under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan.

7. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Friday formally unveiled the State Education Policy (SEP), crafted as a state-specific alternative to the National Education Policy (NEP). The announcement took place at the Anna Centenary Library Auditorium in Kotturpuram, marking the culmination of over a year’s work by a 14-member committee led by retired Justice Murugesan.

1. The Odisha has rejected the proposal made by some organisations for sale of Puri Jagannath temple’s ‘Mahaprasad’ on online platform, state Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said.

1. Ten women on their way to a temple were killed and 30 others injured after a pick-up van packed with passengers fell off the road on a hilly terrain and plunged into a gorge on Monday in Pune district.

A vehicle carrying over 40 passengers, most of them women and children, veered off the road and plunged 25 to 30 feet after it failed to climb an incline – possibly due to overloading — and rolled back down before toppling into the gorge at around 1 pm.

2. A powerful explosion occurred outside the Dwarka Sector 21 Metro Station after a fire broke out in a food cart’s gas cylinder, sending a huge fireball into the air and causing panic in the busy area.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. The incident, which took place near the station entrance.

1. The Tejas Mk2 fighter jet has unveiled an advanced wide-angle holographic head-up display integrated with a digital cockpit, wide area display, and side stick controls, projecting critical flight, targeting, and navigation data directly in the pilot’s line of sight.

2. DRDO plans New ELINT Satellite in Geostationary Orbit: DRDO is developing a cutting-edge electronic intelligence satellite to be placed in geostationary orbit to enhance India’s capability to monitor electromagnetic emissions, track enemy radar activities, and gather real-time intelligence.

3. India’s Strategic Forces Command is spearheading plans to develop geosynchronous missile warning satellites to detect ballistic, hypersonic, and advanced threats, providing 24/7 coverage of missile launches across the Indo-Pacific.

4. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is urgently pushing for a government-to-government agreement with France to acquire additional Rafale fighter jets as part of the long-delayed Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) program.

5. The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), led by Rajnath Singh, has recently approved a major ₹30,000 crore contract to procure 87 Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) drones for the Indian armed forces, marking a pivotal step in unlocking and scaling the indigenous UAV manufacturing ecosystem in India.
