Parliament face disruptions over Pegasus

1. The constitutional amendment bill to restore the powers of the states to make their own OBC lists was passed by Parliament on 12 Aug, with the Opposition and treasury benches joining hands in the Rajya Sabha to approve the legislation.

2. ISRO to launch GISAT-1
The satellite is slated to be launched at 5.43 am today (12 Aug) on a geosynchronous satellite launch vehicle (GSLV) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh as a part of the GSLV-F10 EOS-03 mission.

3. SCOPE OF THIS SATELLITE LAUNCH.

(a) Geo Imaging Satellite-1 (GISAT-1), will keep an eye out on “locations of interest” for India.

(b) The Earth observation satellite will send ISRO 4-5 photographs from across the country daily. It helps to monitor and respond to natural disasters and any other short-term events at an alarming pace.

(c) Earth observation satellite will initially be placed by the launch vehicle in the Geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO), a highly elliptic geocentric orbit that almost always serves as an intermediate step for satellites before reaching for their final orbit. The GTO Earth orbit has an apogee of 42,164 km (26,199 miles) above sea level, which corresponds to the geostationary altitude.

(d) The GISAT-1 launch was originally slated for March 5 last year but it was delayed in view of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic and subsequent technical glitches.

4. The General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Amendment Bill, 2021 was passed by Rajya Sabha on August 11 without discussion amid protests by the Opposition MPs. The bill aims to provide greater private participation in the public sector insurance companies.

5. PM Modi addresses annual meeting of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII); says major responsibility for success of self-reliant India lies on industries. He said, be it masks, PPE kits, ventilators, Government received help from the industry whenever needed.

6. The 5th edition of the National Public Procurement Conclave (NPPC) was organized by Govt e-Marketplace (GeM) in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry [CII] on August 9th&10th, 2021 on the theme “Technology enabled Government Procurement – Towards Efficiency, Transparency, and Inclusiveness”.

7. A Delhi court on 11 Aug granted bail to former BJP spokesperson Ashwini Upadhyay, who was arrested in connection with the communal slogans allegedly raised during a protest at the Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

8. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the datasheet for class 10 and 12 offline exams. The datasheet has been released for class 10, 12 students who will appear in improvement, compartment or private category examinations. The class 10 exams will begin on 25 Aug & conclude on 08 Sep whereas the class 12 exam will begin on 25 Aug and will conclude on 16 Sep.

9. The Income tax department said. Excess interest amount or late fees paid by any taxpayer while filing income tax returns (ITR) for the financial year 2020-21 will be refunded. The deadline to file income tax for FY21 was extended from July 31 to 30 Sep.

10. The Himachal Pradesh cabinet decided to close schools again for 12 days, from August 11 to 22 due to increae in COVID cases. However, teachers will have to attend school regularly.

11. 10 dead, over 25 feared buried as massive landslide hits bus, other vehicles in Himachal’s Kinnaur. 13 persons pulled out of the rubble in injured condition. Rescue operation by Army, ITBP, NDRF, BRO and state Govt is still in progress.

12. Aarogyasri health cards in Andhra Pradesh would soon turn ultramodern with details in QR code and linking them with the Aadhar card of individuals.

13. Maharashtra govt on 11 Aug decided to allow malls & restaurants to remain open till 10 pm with a 50% capacity from 15 Aug, Shops are also allowed to operate till 10 pm.

14. Punjab CM Amarinder meets PM Modi, seeks repeal of controversial farm laws. Urges the Prime Minister to initiate steps for the inclusion of farmers in free legal aid category.

15. TA Army Recruitment 2021. TA Army Bharti Eligibility criteria Applicants must be graduates from an accredited institution in order to be considered for this position. Candidates’ age should be between 18 and 42 years old as of the final day of application submission, i.e., on the last day of the application process. The date is August 19, 2021.
