Air Pollution: Odd-even put on hold after SC leaves decision to Delhi govt

Delhi environment minister Gopal Rai on Friday said that the implementation of the odd-even vehicle rationing system has been put on hold for now.
The implementation of the odd-even vehicle rationing system in the national capital has been put on hold for now as the city is witnessing an improvement in air pollution levels, Delhi environment minister Gopal Rai said on Friday. This came shortly after the Supreme Court left the decision on the rule’s implementation to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi government.

4. The Government has released the draft Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill, 2023 and sought comments on it. The draft Bill provides for a consolidated framework to regulate the broadcasting services and seeks to replace the existing Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.

On the occasion of Dhanteras, the Chief Minister inaugurated the distribution campaign for free refills of cooking gas cylinders under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana for 1.75 crore eligible families in the state from Lok Bhavan on Friday.

1. The Supreme Court of India has issued comprehensive guidelines aimed at expediting the resolution of criminal cases against Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of Legislative Assemblies (MLAs).

This significant decision stems from a plea filed by advocate Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, addressing both the prompt handling of cases and the possibility of a lifetime ban on convicted politicians from contesting elections.

2. The Supreme Court came down hard on both Punjab and Tamil Nadu governors after the state governments accused them of delaying action on bills cleared by the assemblies.

The Supreme Court on Friday, November 10, 2023 said the “constitutional deadlock” created by Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi by inexplicably delaying or even failing to consider and assent to 12 crucial Bills passed by the Legislature is a matter of ‘serious concern’.

The Supreme Court issued notice to the Union of India through the Home Ministry and asked the Attorney General of India or Solicitor General to be present in court when the case is listed on November 20 for next hearing.

3. The Kerala government has approached the Supreme Court for a second time against Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, this time over a state High Court order that declined to fix a timeline for the governor to clear Bills.

It also suggested that the IPC provision related to adultery should be retained in the Sanhita by making it gender neutral “for the sake of protecting the institution of marriage.

6. Bombay high court on Friday quashed an FIR and subsequent criminal proceedings initiated against Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray for allegedly violating the model code of conduct ahead of the civic polls in 2010.

1. India is interested in a US offer for joint production of Stryker armoured vehicles to meet the needs of the army, defence secretary Giridhar Aramane said.
