1. Amid rising COVID-19 cases in India, the Centre said that 81% cases in the last 24 hours have been reported in Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi and Karnataka (in descending order of number of new cases reported). India reported a total of 7,240 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

16. Punjab Cabinet on Wednesday approved the state’s new excise policy, allowing the sale of an unlimited quota of beer and Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL). The move is expected to bring down liquor prices by 35-60% from July 1 onwards and curb smuggling of illegal liquor.

2. Banking, Industry and finance experts have said that the RBI’s hike in policy rate is on expected lines. State Bank of India Chairman Dinesh Khara said the policy statement is a comprehensive assessment of uncertainties and is an affirmation of coordinated policy action by the Government and RBI to thwart the dangers of inflation.
