1. Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy has invited views and suggestions on the Electricity Amendment Bill, 2022.

2. Private member’s Bill to provide for the constitution of the National Inspection and Investigation Committee for preparation of the Uniform Civil Code and its implementation across the country was introduced in Rajya Sabha Yesterday.

3. Rajya Sabha on Friday gave its nod to withdraw a private member legislation– Right to Health Bill 2021

4. The Government has said that more than 3 crore 60 lakh pregnant women receive comprehensive antenatal care under PMSMA, the Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan programme across all States and Union Territories.

6. A total of 22 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals have been commissioned in the country so far. Under the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal policy, it has been targeted to develop 100 terminals by the end of the financial year 2024-25.

8. Kerala High Court is hearing petitions challenging the criterion that only Kerala Brahmins can apply for the post of chief priest in Sabarimala temple. “Times have changed. A person should be a Brahmin by his karma, not by birth,” said a petitioner. In 2017, the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) appointed Dalit priests to temples under its control.

14. Tamil Nadu government extends holiday for schools, colleges in 8 districts amid Cyclone Mandous. Ahead of the landfall, 16 flights at the Chennai airport were cancelled due to bad weather. These included three international flights. Heavy rains with strong winds lashed parts of Chennai as cyclone Mandous made landfall between northern Tamil Nadu and Puducherry with wind speeds gusting to 70 km/hr.

15. Union Minister Smriti Irani revealed in Lok Sabha that Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF) meant for research students from six minority communities, including Muslims, Parsis, Jains and Sikhs, has been discontinued from 2022-23. Irani said, “6,722 candidates were selected under MANF from 2014-22. MANF overlaps with other fellowship schemes. Hence the government decided to discontinue it.

16. Supreme Court on Friday sought the Centre’s response to a plea filed by the National Commission for Women (NCW) seeking an increase in the marriageable age for Muslim women.

1. A suspected Naxalite Sodi Mukka carrying a reward of ₹8 lakh on his head surrendered before the security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Friday.

2. The headmaster of a school in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district reportedly cut the national flag and used it to clean the chair, desk and blackboard in a classroom. The man, identified as Shafaq Iqbal, was arrested after locals staged an agitation over the issue. The Education Department has also initiated action against Iqbal and removed him from the post.

3. Five college students were killed and four others were injured after the car in which the students were travelling collided with two other vehicles in Maharashtra’s Nashik district on Friday. The car was occupied by eight college students.
