1. PM Modi has lauded the arrival of the first freight train to the Kashmir Valley, marking a significant milestone in connecting the region to the national freight network.

2. PM Modi will be on a one day visit to Karnataka today. During the visit, he will flag off three Vande Bharat Express trains at KSR Railway Station in Bengaluru. It includes trains from Bengaluru to Belagavi, Amritsar to Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Nagpur (Ajni) to Pune.

3. President Smt Droupadi Murmu marked Raksha Bandhan this year by honouring a family tradition close to her heart — sending a Rakhi from Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi to her younger brother, Tarani Sen Tudu, in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.

*The Kakori Train Action was a famous armed loot carried out on 9 August 1925 by members of the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) — a revolutionary organization fighting against British colonial rule in India.

A train carrying government treasury money was stopped near Kakori, a small town near Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.

6. Indian Railways introduces a 20% rebate on return journey base fare for round trip bookings during the 2025 festive season. Bookings open August 14.

7. The Government of India has reported significant progress in its maternal and child nutrition initiatives. As of July 2025, more than 72.22 lakh pregnant women are registered beneficiaries under Mission Poshan 2.0, while the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) has provided maternity benefits to over 4.05 crore women since its launch on 1 January 2017.

8. The travel time between Chennai and Tirupati is expected to decrease from 220 to 125-140 minutes due to the four-laning of an 18-km highway between Thiruninravur and Tiruvallur, which is set to be completed by September at a cost of ₹304 crore; additionally, the 44-km Tiruvallur to Tamil Nadu-Andhra border stretch.

9. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced a historic record for Aadhaar face authentication technology, which logged 19.36 crore transactions in July 2025. This is a significant leap from 5.77 crore transactions during the same month last year.

10. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reiterated his government’s commitment to eradicate poverty by 2029, stressing that both welfare and development are being pursued in parallel.

11. Dr. A Rajarajan, a veteran scientist and composites expert, has been appointed as the new Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram, starting August 1, 2025. He succeeds Dr. S Unnikrishnan Nair.

12. India Meteorological Department IMD has forecast very heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand today. It said, heavy rainfall is also expected in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Western and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

1. Two murder convicts died in Delhi’s Tihar jail on Friday after slipping and drowning while cleaning a drain inside the prison complex. Probe Underway.

2. Tensions flared in central Kolkata on Saturday as police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse protesters during a march demanding justice in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case.

The rally, part of the ‘Nabanna Chalo Abhiyan’, saw protesters chanting slogans and vowing to reach the secretariat despite multiple police barricades.

1. Relief and rescue operations are in full swing in the disaster-affected areas of Dharali-Harsil in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. So far, more than a thousand people have been rescued. 2. Three people were killed, seven were injured, and three were grievously wounded when the mini bus in which they were travelling at Tiruchi, Tamilnadu met with an accident when the vehicle went out of control.

3. Train services were disrupted in Jharkhand’s Seraikela-Kharswan district on Saturday after two goods trains derailed under the South Eastern Railway’s (SER) Adra division.

1. India’s defence exports touched 23,000 crore rupees last year and are expected to double within the next two to three years, said Dr. Sameer Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT).

2. The Indian Air Force (IAF) shot down five Pakistani fighter jets and one large military aircraft, likely an AEW&C (Airborne Early Warning and Control) or ELINT (Electronic Intelligence) surveillance plane, during Operation Sindoor in May 2025.This has been officially confirmed by Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh.

3. The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh has said that India downed five fighter aircrafts of Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. Speaking at the 16th Air Chief L M Katre lecture in Bengaluru.

4. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met with Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, who is also in charge of defence industry and trade, and discussed bilateral military-technical ties and implementation of joint projects in strategic sectors.
