2. Indian Railways has successfully completed the final high-speed trial of the indigenously designed and manufactured Vande Bharat Sleeper Train. The trial was conducted on the Kota-Nagda section, during which the train achieved a maximum speed of 180 Kilometer per hour.
3. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Dr L Murugan said that this year the government undertook a series of landmark reforms, marking important chapters in the country’s national journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047. Launching the Government of India Calendar 2026 in New Delhi, he highlighted that these reforms were guided by a clear objective to ensure inclusive growth, strengthen economic resilience.
4. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the revised dates of board examinations for class 10th and 12th. According to the CBSE, for class 10th grade examination, which was earlier scheduled on 3rd March 2026, will now be held on the 11th of March. While the date for class 12th examination has been moved to 10th April, which was earlier scheduled on 3rd March, 2026.
5. The Union Cabinet has approved two major highway projects to boost road infrastructure in Maharashtra and Odisha.
6. Union cabinet approves 374-Km six-lane Nashik-Solapur-Akkalkot highway corridor in Maharashtra; Also gives nod to widening and upgradation of NH-326 to benefit tribal districts of Odisha.
7. Viksit Bharat G-RAM-G will promote employment for workers, empower women and farmers, and encourage rural entrepreneurship: Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said.

9. The Union Education Ministry has announced the results of the contest under the Prime Minister’s Scheme for Mentoring Young Authors, PM-YUVA 3.0. Under this edition, 43 book proposals in 22 Indian languages and English have been selected.
10. The Ministry of Jal Shakti has rejected social media allegations claiming misuse of images in the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari Awards. The Ministry said these claims are incorrect and misleading. The Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari -JSJB initiative was launched on 6 September 2024 to make water conservation a people’s movement.
11. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the schedule for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh. In a social media post, Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh Navdeep Rinwa said that as per the revised schedule, the draft publication of the electoral roll will now be made on 6th January 2026.
12. The Delhi Government has approved the Delhi Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2026. Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta informed that the Bill, approved by the Delhi Cabinet, aims to simplify compliance procedures and decriminalise minor violations, reduce the number of cases in the courts and enhance administrative efficiency.
13. The Ministry of Science and Technology has developed new open-source software, PathGennie, for fast tracking of drug discovery. The Ministry informed that this open-source software predicts the potential drugs unbind from their protein targets without the artificial distortions commonly used in standard methods.
14. The Centre has appointed Lav Aggarwal as Director General of Foreign Trade and Rabindra Kumar Agarwal as CMD of FCI.
15. In a major boost to wetland conservation in northern India, the Parvati–Arga Bird Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh has been declared an Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ).
16. The bridge over the Kharicut canal in the Machhunagar area, of Vatva will be closed from today (January 1) for six months after it was declared “structurally unsafe” and will be demolished. A notification was issued by the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner.
17. Dense fog conditions in the northern parts of the country have impacted train and flight operations. According to the Delhi Division of Railways, more than 50 Delhi-bound trains are running late.

1. The government has banned all oral Nimesulide medicines above 100 mg with immediate effect, citing health risks. Nimesulide is a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug which is widely used in the treatment of acute pain. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in a gazette notification said safer alternatives to the Nimesulide drug are available in the market.
2. Government has notified February 1 as the date from which additional excise duty will be levied on tobacco products, and a new cess on pan masala.
3. The Election Commission has issued a strong rebuttal following the filing of two police complaints against the Chief Election Commissioner and the Chief Electoral Officer CEO of West Bengal regarding the SIR process.

1. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation unveiled its new logo and mascot. The new logo reflects the importance of data in the development of the nation.
2. The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation, ESIC has extended the Scheme for Promotion of Registration of Employers and Employees, SPREE 2025 for a month to give more time to employers to join without past liabilities. Ministry of Labour and Employment said that the one-month extension reinforces ESIC’s push for inclusive and simplified compliance, thereby expanding the social security coverage in the country.
3. The Finance Ministry has notified final rules allowing 100% FDI in the insurance sector. The new norms ease board composition rules, mandate one Indian resident in top leadership, and align regulations with FEMA NDI Rules.

1. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hoisted a flag at the Annapurna Temple in the Ram Temple complex and joined prayers on the occasion of the second anniversary of Pran Pratishtha. He was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
2. DRDO successfully conducts salvo launch of two Pralay missiles at Chandipur, Odisha.

The Army Hospital (Research and Referral) in Delhi has successfully performed the country’s first-ever 3D Flex Aqueous Angiography with iStent, combining advanced imaging with minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. Glaucoma, a leading cause of irreversible blindness, has long challenged clinicians with its silent progression.
4. Indian Army in 2025 reported significant advancements, highlighting key milestones in operational employment and deterrence. Following the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor was launched in May 2025.
(a) The Army also highlighted its progress in BrahMos and Pinaka systems. A BrahMos unit of Southern Command executed a combat missile launch and Pinaka was successfully tested, marking a notable step towards higher-precision deep fires.
(b) The Army received six AH-64E Apaches, progressing in its long-pending Aviation induction plan. 91 per cent of all the ammunition in use by the Indian Army is indigenized.
(c) In the tech sector, Edge Data Centres were set up to enable faster data-to-decision cycles closer to the tactical edge. It also held a host of key bilateral exercises with France, USA, Thailand, Australia, UK and UAE to deepen interoperability, counter-terror and urban ops readiness.
5. Indian security forces recovered a bag dropped by a Pakistani drone in Poonch, containing IEDs, ammunition, and narcotics. Officials warn the aerial delivery may have been part of a planned terror strike.
