1. Cyclone ‘Biparjoy’ in Arabian Sea rapidly intensifies into very severe cyclonic storm, meteorologists predicting a “mild” monsoon onset over Kerala. Very severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy over east-central Arabian Sea at 2330 hours IST of 08th June, 2023 over about 840 km west-southwest of Goa, 870 km west-southwest of Mumbai. To intensify further gradually during next 36 hours and move nearly north-northwestwards in next 2 days
2. ISRO chairman S Somnath has informed that Chandrayaan 3 mission is planned to be launched by mid-July. The aim of the mission is to place Rover on the surface of the moon.

6. The government has said that Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) will be brought under the ambit of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samridhi Kendras. There are about one lakh Primary Agricultural Credit Cooperative Societies present across the country. PACS will be connected with the marketing of organic fertilizers, especially Fermented Organic Manure and Liquid Fermented Organic Manure.

8. JAMMU: The newly constructed Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Jammu has opened its doors to devotees after a grand Maha Samprokshanam ceremony, held on Thursday. CRIME REPORT
1. Enforcement Directorate on Thursday summoned senior Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee, asking him to appear before its officers on June 13 in connection with its investigation into the primary school jobs scam in West Bengal. He was previously questioned by the CBI in the same case on May 20.
2. Several girl students of Vishwa Bharti Higher Secondary School in Srinagar protested against its administration, alleging that they were denied entry for wearing “Abaya”.
3. A 12-year-old boy who was rescued on Thursday evening after he got trapped between the slab and pillar of a bridge in Nasriganj in Bihar’s Rohtas district has died. Officials said he was brought dead to the hospital. The boy was rescued after a 14-hour operation undertaken by the NDRF.
4. Six police personnel have been suspended for negligence that led to the killing of gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s aide Sanjeev Maheshwari Jeeva on the premises of a court in Lucknow.
5. A 56-year-old man accused of killing his live-in partner and chopping and boiling her body parts in Maharashtra’s Thane district was sent to police custody till June 16 by a court on Thursday.
6. In the wake of protests over the alleged suicide of an engineering student of a private college in Kottayam district, the Kerala government on Thursday announced the formation of ‘grievance redressal cells’ to look into complaints lodged by students in colleges and universities in the state.

2. The CCEA chaired by PM Modi approved the continuation of the Central Sector Scheme of “Exploration of Coal and Lignite scheme” with an estimated expenditure of ₹2,980 crore from 2021-22 to 2025-26 co-terminus with the 15th Finance Commission cycle.

4. Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has announced its policy decision. The 2nd bi-monthly monetary policy meeting of FY24 was held from June 6 to 8 and its outcome will be announced on June 8. The next meeting of the MPC is scheduled during August 8-10, 2023.
5. Indian Railways achieved freight revenue of over 14 thousand 641 crore rupees mark in last month against over 14 thousand 083 crore rupees freight earnings in May last year.
6. The (RBI) has recently updated its ‘Alert List’ to caution the public about unauthorised forex trading platforms. The list, which initially contained 34 entities, has now been expanded to include eight additional names, bringing the total to 56.
7. The housing prices rose in 43 major cities in India in the fourth quarter of 2022-23 ending March, according to National Housing Bank (NHB). Ahmedabad with a rise of 10.8%, Bengaluru (9.4%), Chennai (6.8%), Delhi (1.7%), Hyderabad (7.9%), Kolkata (11%), Mumbai (3.1%) and Pune (8.2%) recorded an increase in the index on an annual basis as per the NHB.
8. Canadian-state-owned Canada Pension Fund, which holds over 4% equity in Kotak Mahindra Bank, will sell about 1.6% stake.

1. Nearly after three decades, the coveted international beauty pageant Miss World will be hosted in India this year. The 71st edition of Miss World is expected to take place in November this year, the final dates are yet to be ascertained. India had last hosted the Miss World pageant in 1996.
2. ADIPURUSH: Censor Board Passes Prabhas Film With No Cuts, Directed by Om Raut, Adipurush is a cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana.
Prabhas will be playing the role of Raghav in the film, Kriti Sanon will play Janaki. The film also stars Saif Ali Khan as the antagonist, portraying King Ravana and Sunny Singh as Laxman.
The film will be released on June 16, 2023.

3. New Generation Ballistic Missile Agni Prime was successfully flight-tested by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
4. Germany is preparing to host the biggest air deployment exercise in NATO’s history, a show of force intended to impress allies and potential adversaries such as Russia. The Air Defender 23 exercise starting next week will see 10,000 participants and 250 aircraft from 25 nations respond to a simulated attack on a NATO member country.
