1. The Delhi High Court on 08 Jul (Thursday) told the Centre it was free to take action against Twitter Inc in case of any breach of the new IT Rules and that no interim protection was granted, even as the new IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said those who live and work in India will have to abide by the rules of the country.

2. Newly-inducted Union Ministers took charge of their offices on 08 Jul. 43 ministers were sworn in to the Union Council of Ministers. They included 15 Cabinet Ministers & 28 Ministers of State.

3. India’s cumulative COVID Vaccination Coverage has reached nearly 37 crore & National COVID-19 recovery rate stands at 97.18%. The Union Health Ministry said.

4. The Union Cabinet has decided to make amendments to the Coconut Development Board Act, 1979 to make it more efficient to carry out the activities of farming and production of coconut.

5. Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of allowing the Agriculture Produce Market Committees, APMCs to use the one lakh rupees Agriculture Infrastructure Fund which has been announced as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Package.

6. PM Modi interacted with Directors of Centrally-funded technical institutions through video conferencing on 08 Jul (Thursday). Newly-appointed Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also joined the interaction.

7. Andhra Pradesh Chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on 08 Jul (Thursday) inaugurated Rythu Bharosa Kendram (RBKs) at 74 Udegolam in Rayadurgam mandal in the Anantapur district to offer services to farmers at their doorstep.

Union cabinet expansion: Who is Anupriya Patel, one of the seven women who took oath? : She is the national president of Apna Dal (S) & currently serving her second term as a member of the Lok Sabha from Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur. Patel’s party is currently in alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Now she is the current Minister of state in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

9. Veteran Congress leader and six-time chief minister Virbhadra Singh passed away at on 08 Jul at IGMC after a three-month long battle with Covid illness. He was 87. The state government of Himachal has declared a three day mourning as a mark of respect to the former CM.

10. Shri Virbhadra’s body has been kept at his home in Holly Lodge in the lower Jakhu area of Shimla for the public to pay their last respects. The cremation will take place at his native place Rampur on Saturday.

11. The Defence Ministry has implemented SPARSH, an integrated system for automation of sanction and disbursement of defence pension. The two largest banks dealing with defence pensioners – State Bank of India and Punjab National Bank have been co-opted as Service Centres.

12. Two people were reportedly killed and many injured, after assailants opened fire at a crowd near the Bada Hindu Rao hospital in Delhi on 08 Jul (Thursday). According to sources, the assailants fired at least 20-25 rounds and the incident took place at around 9:45 pm.

13. Five militants were killed over 24 hours in Pulwama and Kulgam districts of Jammu and Kashmir, Inspector General of Police of the Kashmir zone Vijay Kumar said.

14. The Army foiled a major infiltration bid on 08 Jul (Thursday) along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri as they eliminated two Pakistani terrorists in the fierce gun battle.

15. Chief of Army Staff Gen M M Naravane on 08 Jul (Thursday) met his Italian counterpart Lt Gen Pietro Serino and defence minister Lorenzo Guerini in Rome and held extensive talks focusing on strengthening bilateral defence cooperation, including military-to-military engagement.

16. Indian Army will conduct a recruitment rally at Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, Ahmednagar from September 7 to 23 for selection of Soldier General Duty, Soldier Tradesman (10th pass), Soldier Tradesman (8th pass), Soldier Technical, Soldier Technical (Aviation/ Ammunition examiner), Soldier Nursing Assistant or Nursing Assistant Veterinary. The rally will be held for candidates from Ahmednagar, Beed, Latur, Osmanabad, Pune and Solapur districts. Online registration for the recruitment will begin on July 9.
