1. PM Modi yesterday chaired the roundtable with Indian AI Start-Ups in New Delhi. Ahead of the India AI Impact Summit 2026 to be held in the country next month, 12 Indian AI start-ups which have qualified for the AI for ALL: Global Impact Challenge attended the roundtable.

2. Prime Minister’s flagship platform for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, PRAGATI, has marked a significant milestone with the successful conduct of its 50th meeting.

4. Road, Transport, and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari yesterday announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch a cashless medical treatment scheme for victims of road accidents soon. Mr Gadkari said this while addressing a press conference after chairing the 43rd meeting of the Transport Ministers of all states and Union Territories and the Transport Development Council in New Delhi.

5. Union Minister Chirag Paswan inaugurated 9th edition of Indusfood 2026. Reduction in GST rates helped food processing industry increase market access for the industry; appealed to convert volume into value exports; appealed global brands to set up their R&D center in India.

6. Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah has appealed to citizens across the country to participate in the “Somnath Swabhiman Parv,” being observed at Somnath in Gujarat from January 8 to January 11. The four-day event commemorates 1,000 years since the first recorded attack on the Somnath temple and seeks to highlight the continuity and resilience of Sanatan culture.

7. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has unveiled a resident-facing Aadhaar mascot named ‘Udai’ to strengthen public understanding and ease of access to Aadhaar-related services. The initiative is aimed at making Aadhaar communication simpler, more inclusive, and relatable for over a billion residents using the digital identity ecosystem.

8. Indian Railways will confer the 70th Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskar–2025 on 100 officers and employees in recognition of exemplary service and outstanding contributions to the organisation. The awards aim to honour individuals and teams whose work has significantly strengthened railway operations, safety, innovation, and public service delivery across the country.

9. Government aims to make India child marriage-free by 2030 under Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat campaign. Govt. is aimed at reducing the prevalence of child marriage by 10 per cent by 2026 and making India child marriage-free by 2030.

10. Women and Child Development Minister Annpurna Devi launched an Integrated Digital Portal – PANKHUDI to strengthen coordination, transparency and structured stakeholder participation in initiatives for Women and Child Development in the country. The portal focuses on thematic areas including nutrition, health, early childhood care and education, child welfare, and women’s safety and empowerment.

11. Project Veer Gatha 5.0 has witnessed a record participation of one crore 92 lakh students from around one lakh 90 thousand schools. Veer Gatha is a joint initiative of the Defence Ministry and the Education Ministry. Defence Ministry said that over 28 thousand students from 91 CBSE-affiliated schools across 18 countries took part for the first time.

One hundred winners have been selected at the national level. The 100 super-winners selected at the national level will witness the parade at Kartavya Path as special guests on Republic Day.

12. The depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to cross Sri Lanka’s coast on Friday between 5:30 PM and 11:30 PM, the Sri Lankan Department of Meteorology said.

1. The Tamil Nadu Government has an investigation into two letters sent by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) levelling serious allegations of corruption involving senior DMK leader and Minister of Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) department, K.N. Nehru.

2. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has withdrawn the permission granted in September last year to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Institute of Medical Excellence in Jammu and Kashmir to open admissions for the MBBS course

3. The Karnataka High Court has asked the Union government and Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) authorities to examine the feasibility of introducing a cashless medical treatment mechanism, particularly for emergency and critical care.

4. Co-founder and director of Winzo Games Pvt Ltd, Saumya Rathore, has moved a plea before the Karnataka High Court challenging the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) move to conduct its money laundering probe against the online gaming company and its representatives from Bengaluru.

Madhav Gadgil, one of India’s most renowned and influential ecologists, passed away at his residence in Pune on the night of 7 January 2026, after a brief illness. He was 82 years old.

1. Indian naval ships and an ICG vessel are undertaking a long-range training deployment to South East Asia. This mission reinforces India’s maritime engagement with regional nations. The deployment includes port calls at Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand. It aims to enhance operational exposure and foster cooperative maritime security. The initiative also supports capacity building for friendly nations.

The ships of the First Training Squadron (1TS) of the Indian Navy — INS Tir, INS Shardul, INS Sujata and Indian Coast Guard (ICG) ship Sarathi — will be proceeding on an LRTD to South East Asia as part of a training curriculum of the 110th Integrated Officers’ Training Course (IOTC).

2. BSF installs 12-feet concertina fencing along key parts of the Chicken’s Neck corridor in West Bengal amid Bangladesh unrest.

3. The Chiefs of Staff Committee has released a Vision Document on Training Methodology for the Indian Armed Forces, aimed at futuristic capability building and preparing the force for evolving security challenges.

The document lays out stage-wise learning objectives for Professional Military Education (PME), ensuring progressive professional growth throughout an officer’s career. From foundational training to higher command and strategic leadership levels.

4. A grand Army Day Parade will be organised in Jaipur on 15th of this month. As part of the events being held to mark the 78th Army Day, a four-day Know Your Army exhibition began yesterday at the Bhawani Niketan Education Committee campus in Jaipur. The exhibition was inaugurated by Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma.

5. Major General Ajay Feroze Shah assumed charge as the Chief of Staff of the Andaman and Nicobar Command on 7 January 2026.
