1. The Supreme Court on Friday (February 8) dismissed a Public Interest Litigation challenging the electoral manual provisions allowing students studying out of their constituency to transfer their names from the electoral rolls to the place of their education.
2. The Supreme Court held that insurers cannot deny claims solely due to non-renewal of a state permit if a valid national permit is in place. The Court clarified that if a vehicle catches fire within its registered state, non-payment of authorization fees for a state permit would not invalidate the claim.

1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced enhancement to the security of online payments. This new measure focuses on cross-border “Card Not Present” (CNP) transactions.
2. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently announced policy change. Non-bank brokers registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) will now have access to the Negotiated Dealing System-Order Matching (NDS-OM) platform. This initiative aims to increase retail participation in government securities trading.
3. The Reserve Bank of India’s decision to cut the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6.25 per cent marks shift in monetary policy. This is the first reduction in nearly five years. The move is aimed at stimulating economic activity by making borrowing cheaper.
4. The Grameen Credit Score Scheme was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the 2025 budget. This initiative aims to enhance financial inclusion for Self Help Groups (SHGs) and rural women entrepreneurs in India.

Actor Chiranjeevi has been bestowed with yet another prestigious honour by the Government of India as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appointed him as a member of the Advisory Board for the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES), a global summit set to be hosted by India later this year.
2. Telangana Bengali Film Festival, organised by Hyderabad Bangalee Samity, The festival, running from February 7 to 9 at Prasad Preview Theatre, featured a line-up of contemporary Bengali films alongside regional and international selections. This year’s festival brought additional star power with star Abir Chatterjee receiving the ‘Superstar of the Year’ award.

1. The Ministry of Defence today signed a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited for the procurement of 28 EON-51 systems for 11 New Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels and three Cadet Training Ships for the Indian Navy. The contract will cost over 642 crore rupees.
EON-51 is an electro-optical fire control system that provides search, detection, and classification of targets using electro-optical and thermal imager devices.
2. The Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (INS Sujata, INS Shardul, and ICGS Veera) arrived at Changi Naval Base, Singapore, on 6th February 2025, as part of its Long-Range Training Deployment to Southeast Asia. The visit aims to enhance maritime cooperation and mutual understanding.
3. The International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) is set to launch the Lord Buddha Trination Triservices Expedition, a historic initiative uniting the armed forces of India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. This unique motorcycle expedition will commence from Lumbini, Nepal (the birthplace of Lord Buddha) and conclude in Galle, Sri Lanka, covering key Buddhist heritage sites along the route.
4. The Astra MK-3, a next-generation Beyond Visual Range Air-to-Air Missile (BVRAAM), is under development in India to enhance the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) air combat capabilities. It is expected to provide a much-needed capability to the IAF, equipping it with a long-range air-to-air missile capable of engaging enemy aircraft at supersonic speeds, providing multi-layered defence against potential threats.
5. The 15th edition of the Biennial Aero-India International Seminar commenced in Bangalore, Karnataka on February 08, 2025. The two-day seminar has been organised by the Centre for Military Airworthiness & Certification (CEMILAC) of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in association with the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI) as a prelude to Aero India 2025.
6. A massive ongoing Indian military exercise in the Indian Ocean is carrying out operations to validate and refine the concept of operations, including forward deployment and ability of the Navy, Indian Air Force and the Army to operate jointly.
The exercise called ‘Tropex’ is a three-month-long deployment at sea. It is being conducted from January to March. It has warships at sea near key locations across the Indian Ocean. This includes a deployment of 65 warships, nine submarines and over 80 aircraft of different types.
