3. President Ram Nath Kovind, PM Modi and other leaders, expressed “shock and anguish” at the sudden death of General Bipin Rawat, India’s Chief of Defence Staff General Rawat and his wife Dr Madhulika Rawat died today after a military chopper crashed in Tamil Nadu, killing 13 on board.

4. An helicopter carrying senior Defence officials including Chief of Defence Staff Bipin Rawat crashed at Coonoor in Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu.

5. Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat died in a helicopter crash near Coonoor in Tamil Nadu, the Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed on the evening of Wednesday, December 8. He was among the 14 people who were on board, including his wife and staff members. Thirteen people have succumbed to the crash, including CDS Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 others.

6. The IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter was airborne from Sulur for Wellington and was carrying 14 persons on board, including CDS Bipin Rawat and his wife.

7. Parliament has passed the Assisted Reproductive Technology ( Regulation) Bill, 2021 with the Rajya Sabha approving it on 08 Dec. The Bill has already been passed by the Lok Sabha.
The Upper House also passed the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2020 with amendments moved by the government. The Assisted Reproductive Technology ( Regulation) Bill, 2021 provides for the regulation and supervision of the assisted reproductive technology clinics and the assisted reproductive technology banks. The Bill provides that every ART clinic and bank must be registered under the National Registry of Banks and Clinics of India.

9. Renowned Konkani writer Damodar Mauzo has been conferred with 57th Gyanpeeth Award for the year 2022. Noted Assamese poet Nilmani Phookan has bagged 56th Gyanpeeth award for the year 2021. Mauzo is second Konkani writer to receive the highest literary award, earlier being given to Writer Ravindra Kelekar in 2006.

11. NAGALAND govt: in its report to the Ministry of Home Affairs has claimed that a delay in the funeral service of the civilians who were killed in the Mon district resulted in further violence, and in turn led to the killing of seven more people in the state on Sunday.

12. SIKKIM Assembly on Wednesday passed a bill for the creation of two more districts in the North-eastern state. Sikkim will have six districts once Governor Ganga Prasad gives his assent to the bill.

TELANGANA : The state govt has decided to withdraw its quota of 5-kg free rice, which it was extending to ration card holders under the Centre’s ‘Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY)’ from this month. However, it will continue to extend the Centre’s quota of 5-kg free rice to beneficiaries as usual.

14. UTTAR PRADESH CM Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday said PM Modi will soon lay the foundation stone of the six-lane Ganga Expressway, connecting Meerut to Allahabad in the state.

15. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 08 Dec (Wednesday) kept the benchmark interest rate unchanged at 4% & decided to continue with its accommodative stance in the backdrop of concerns over the emergence of the new coronavirus variant Omicron.

This is the ninth time in a row that the Monetary Policy Committee headed by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das has maintained the status quo.

16. As the RBI moves ahead for the launch of the central bank digital currency (CBDC), Governor Shaktikanta Das on Wednesday marked out cyber security and digital frauds as the main challenges in the new system.

Individuals and corporations violating government rules on crypto finance will face fines of up to ₹ 20 crore and a jail term of 1.5 years, according to the proposed legislation to regulate cryptocurrency in India. All private cryptocurrency will be regulated and not banned, as was planned earlier. However, crypto will not be recognised as currency or legal tender. The legislation’s name has replaced the word “cryptocurrency” with “cryptoasset”. The bill seeks to minimise financial stability risk by suitably ring-fencing the formal financial sector from crypto assets.

25. For the first time, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) plans to collect toll from civilian traffic plying on the roads it builds, especially in the Himalayan states bordering China and Pakistan. The agency — under the defence ministry — plans to start with four routes covering a distance of 941 kms in Ladakh, including the Leh-Srinagar highway, and Leh’s link to Chalunka in the Nubra valley that is flanked by Chorbat area of Pakistan in the west and Siachen in the north.
