Union Cabinet expansion July 2021

1. Union Council of Ministers expanded; 43 Ministers including 15 Cabinet Ministers : BJP leaders Narayan Rane, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sarbananda Sonowal, Dr Virendra Kumar, Ashwini Vaishnaw and Bhupendra Yadav and R C P Singh of JD(U) and Pashupati Kumar Paras of LJP were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers. Union Ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, Mansukh Mandaviya, Kiren Rijiju, Raj Kumar Singh, G Kishan Reddy, Parshottam Rupala & Anurag Thakur were also elevated to the rank of Cabinet Ministers.

2. BJP MPs Pankaj Chaudhury, S P Singh Baghel, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Sobha Karandlaje, Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma, Darshana Vikram Jardosh, Meenakshi Lekhi, Annapurna Devi, A Narayanaswamy and Kaushal Kishore, Ajay Bhatt, B L Verma, Ajay Kumar, Chauhan Devusinh and Anupriya Patel of Apna Dal were sworn in as the Ministers of State. Besides leaders Kapil Patil, Subhash Sarkar, Bharati Pawar, Bishweswar Tudu, Shantanu Thakur, John Barala, L Murugan and Nisith Pramanik and others also took oath as Ministers of State.

3. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, PM Modi, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh, Home minister Amit Shah, BJP President J P Nadda and several Union Ministers. This is the first Cabinet expansion of the Narendra Modi govt in the 2nd tenure.

4. Home Minister Amit Shah has got the charge of the newly-created Ministry of Cooperation.

5. Rajnath Singh has retained the Defence Ministry and Nirmala Sitharaman the Finance after the reshuffle. Nitin Gadkari will continue to be the Minister of Road Transport and Highways and Subrahmanyam Jaishankar the External Affairs Minister.

6. Cabinet Minister Mandavia, who has a daunting task of handling the COVID-19 pandemic, has also been given the Chemicals and Fertilizers Ministry, whereas Vaishnaw will also be the Minister of Communications, Electronics and Information Technology.

7. Piyush Goyal will be the new Textiles Minister, alongside being the Minister of Commerce and Industry; and the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

8. The Education Ministry will be headed by Dharmendra Pradhan who will also hold the charge of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

9. Annapurna Devi, Subhas Sarkar and Rajkumar Ranjan Singh will be the new ministers of state for education.

10. Janata Dal-United’s Ram Chandra Prasad Singh will be the Steel Minister, while Pashupati Kumar Paras has been made the Minister of Food Processing Industries and Kiren Rijiju the Minister of Law and Justice.

11. Hardeep Singh Puri will be the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Narayan Tatu Rane will be the Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises while Sarbananda Sonowal has been made the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways; and the Minister of AYUSH.

12. Shripad Yesso Naik, who was the Minister of State (Independent charge) for AYUSH will now be the Minister of State in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways; and the Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism.

13. Smriti Zubin Irani has retained the Women and Child Development Ministry while Narendra Singh Tomar continues to be the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

14. Pralhad Joshi will be the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs; Minister of Coal; and Minister of Mines.

15. Union Minister Jitendra Singh will be the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Science and Technology and MoS (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Earth Sciences.

16. Ajay Bhatt will be the Minister of State in the Ministry of Defence; and Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism.

17. The Supreme Court has directed the Centre to submit the report of an expert committee which was asked to ascertain whether spraying insecticides or fumigation to ward off mosquitoes in aircraft was harmful for passengers.

18. Panchayati Raj Ministry organises orientation training programme for all 225 beacon panchayats identified for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. the significance of celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and stated that Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is a series of events organized by the Government to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Independence.

19. Ministry of Civil Aviation has increased the capacity of domestic civil aviation operations from existing capacity of 50% to 65%.

20. Legendary bollywood actor Dilip Kumar died in Mumbai on 07 Jul (Wednesday) at the age of 98. He was taken to a hospital last week after complaining of breathlessness. Dilip Kumar is survived by Saira Banu, his wife of over 54 years. Dilip Kumar, born Mohammed Yusuf Khan, took on the stage name “Dilip Kumar” when he made his debut in the Hindi film industry in 1944.

21. Govt Can Evaluate Splitting P75I Submarine Contract Between Two Bidders : Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL) or Larsen & Toubro (L&T). India’s order for six conventional submarines, costing Rs 43,000 crore, could go to two companies. The Request for Proposal (RFP) for the construction of the Project P 75 (I) submarines under the strategic partnership model is expected to be issued in July.

22. Hizbul Mujahideen’s oldest top commander Mehrazuddin Halwai was killed by the security forces in an overnight encounter in the Handwara district of North Kashmir on 07 Jul (Wednesday) morning.

23. 24. Indian Navy MR Recruitment 2021: The Indian Navy has released an official notification inviting applications from unmarried male candidates for enrolment as sailors MR for 350 vacancies (approximately) in the October 2021 batch.
