Delhi Services Bill: The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, passed by 131 to 102 votes. Four MPs have abstained. The bill, which requires the President’s sign-off, gives Centre control over Delhi’s bureaucrats
1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura for Tuesday. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall is very likely over Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Sikkim, Jharkhand and Arunachal Pradesh, the IMD stated.
2. The Parliament has passed the Mediation Bill 2023 with the Lok Sabha giving its assent to the Bill on Monday (7 August 2023). The Rajya Sabha had cleared it on 1st of this month.
3. The Lok Sabha on Monday (07 August 2023) passed the Coastal Aquaculture Authority (Amendment) Bill 2023. Replying to a debate on the Bill, Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala said, the Bill amends the Coastal Aquaculture Authority Act, 2005.
4. The Lok Sabha on Monday (07 August 2023) passed the Anusandhan National Research Foundation Bill, 2023. The Bill seeks to establish the Anusandhan National Research Foundation to provide high level strategic direction for research.
5. The Lok Sabha on Monday ( 07 August 2023) passed the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023.
6. Lok Sabha has passed the Pharmacy (Amendment) Bill, 2023. The bill will amend the Pharmacy Act, 1948. The Bill has a special provision relating to persons registered or qualified under Jammu and Kashmir Pharmacy Act, 2021.
7. Rajya Sabha on Monday (07 August 2023) revoked the suspension of Congress MP Rajani A. Patil with a voice vote. Ms Patil was suspended on 10th February this year during the Budget session for allegedly videographing House proceedings and sharing it on social media against Rajya Sabha rules.
8. The Lok Sabha secretariat yesterday restored the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s membership in the Lower House.
9. The Centre has approved a total of 385 projects under the Nagar Van Yojana (NVY) scheme since its inception in 2020. The scheme aims at promoting urban forestry by involving local communities, NGOs, educational institutions and local bodies.
10. Opposition parties on Monday (07 August 2023) staged a walk out from the Lok Sabha in the post lunch session.

With this, 1,48,523 pilgrims have now departed the Jammu base camp for the Kashmir Valley since June 30. Shri Amarnathji Yatra registered over 4.19 lakh record-breaking number of pilgrims in just a period of 34 days of yatra.
15. Lok Sabha is set to witness a fierce debate on the no-confidence motion against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government on Tuesday with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, whose membership was restored following a Supreme Court direction, likely to be the lead speaker of the opposition bloc INDIA.
16. Former Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi on Monday said that the Delhi Services Bill, which gives the Lieutenant Governor control over the transfer of officers in Delhi, is “perfectly, legitimately valid”.
17. Government of Gujarat has implemented One District One Product (ODOP) scheme with a grant of 58 crores rupees to promote its indigenous products at the international level. The Gujarat State Handicrafts and Handicrafts Development Corporation (GSHHDC) has started the implementation of this scheme.
7. 17 new districts and 3 new divisions have come into existence in Rajasthan yesterday. CM Ashok Gehlot inaugurated new districts and divisions through video conference in a program organized at Birla Auditorium in Jaipur.

Assam’s CM, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has announced that a bill to end polygamy will be introduced within the current financial year after an expert committee confirmed that the state does possess the power to draft such laws. The president is expected to give assent to any legislation, rather than the governor.
20. The Government is drafting a Bill for establishment of the Higher Education Commission of India. For transforming the Regulatory System of Higher Education, the National Education Policy (NEP), 2020 envisions setting up of an umbrella institution, the Higher Education Commission of India (HECI).
21. The Central government has granted a one-year extension to Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, making him the longest-serving cabinet secretary in India’s history.
