1. Justice B.R. Gavai has been nominated the new Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC). He replaces Justice Sanjiv Khanna, the top court’s senior-most judge after the Chief Justice of India.

2. NOW, MEGHALAYA TOURIST TAXIS TO GO ON 48-HOUR STRIKE FROM 05 JAN : The tourist taxi associations opposing against the increase in punishment in the hit-and-run cases in the yet-to-be implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has decided to end their 48-hour protest today (Saturday) morning.

3. Former Governor of Nagaland, former director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and former Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh, Ashwani Kumar, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Shimla.

6. The Supreme Court declined to dismiss criminal proceedings against Congress leader Pawan Khera, who is accused of making derogatory remarks about the names of PM Modi and his father.

7. The Supreme Court said it has recommended setting up a two-judge panel in all high courts to ensure that the orders on pay, pension and other retiral benefits for judicial officers as per the Second National Judicial Pay Commission are implemented.

8. The Supreme Court on 5 January said the Madras High Court did right to restrain itself and pass the ball to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to take a call about the continuance of V. Senthilbalaji as a Minister without portfolio.

Mr. Senthilbalaji is involved in a money laundering case linked to the cash-for-job scam.

9. The West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose condemned the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Sandeshkhali by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Sheikh Shajahan’s supporters. The investigative agency said that “800-1000″ people attacked their officials “with an intention to cause death”.

1. The government has decided to implement the overarching scheme PRITHvi VIgyan (PRITHVI) for 4,797 crore rupees. A decision in this regard was taken by the Union Cabinet.
