KARNATAKA : Amid controversy over the ban on hijab in some colleges in Karnataka, the state’s Education Department on Saturday issued an order banning clothes that “disturb equality, integrity and public order” in schools and colleges. College students must wear dresses chosen by the College Development Committee, the order said. Protests were held after women wearing hijab weren’t allowed inside colleges
4. MAHARASHTRA : Khadi Emporium at DN Singh Road in Mumbai banned by KVIC for selling fake Khadi products. The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), has cancelled the Khadi Certification to its oldest Khadi Institution named Mumbai Khadi and Village Industries Association (MKVIA). MKVIA was running the prestigious Khadi Emporium at Metropolitan Insurance House located at Dr. D.N. Singh Road in Mumbai since 1954.
5. Social activist Anna Hazare has written a letter to Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray against the state government’s decision to allow the wine sale in supermarkets and walk-in shops. He also warned the Maharashtra government that he would go on an infinite strike against the decision. Earlier, Hazare had termed the decision “unfortunate”, saying that it could result in liquor addiction.
6. TELANGANA : PM Modi unveils ‘Statue of Equality’ in Hyderabad to commemorate 11th-century Bhakti Saint Sri Ramanujacharya (216-feet tall ‘Statue of Equality’ ) at Muchintal near Shamshabad . Ramanujacharya, who promoted the idea of equality in all aspects of living including faith, caste and creed. The statue is made of 5 metals ie Gold, Silver, Copper, Brass and Zinc. This is one of the tallest metallic statues in sitting position in the world.
7. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi launched the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) at Patancheru. On the occasion, he inaugurated ICRISAT’s Climate Change Research Facility on Plant Protection and Rapid Generation Advancement Facility. He also launched a commemorative stamp issued on the 50th Anniversary celebrations of the ICRISAT.(International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics)
8. PM Narendra Modi, said that India has set a target of net-zero carbon emissions by 2070. He called for a Pro Planet People movement to combat climate change and “to connect every individual with climate”.
9. UTTAR PRADESH: Prominent Muslim leader and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has rejected the government’s move to give him ‘Z’ category security and demanded that the stringent anti-terror law UAPA should be slapped against the person who fired at his vehicle while campaigning in Uttar Pradesh.
10. UTTARAKHAND : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi made four promises to the people of poll-bound Uttarakhand. “We’ll give employment to four lakh people. We’ll give LPG cylinders for less than ₹500 each. We will also implement the ‘Nyay’ scheme here, in which five lakh families will be given ₹40,000 a year. Besides, we will provide medical facilities at your doorstep,” he said.

22. Ministry of Finance releases PDRD (monthly Post Devolution Revenue Deficit) Grant of 9,871 crore rupees to 17 States.

23. Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar, who has been admitted in the ICU of a Mumbai hospital since last month, is critical. As per a statement from her doctor at the Breach Candy Hospital, the condition of the singer has deteriorated again and she is on a ventilator and critical. She is still in ICU and will remain under the observation of doctors. The 92-year-old singer was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on January 8, after she was diagnosed with COVID-19 and pneumonia.
DEFENCE:
24. This year’s budget has brought some much-needed cheer to defence research. The finance minister’s announcement that 25% of defence research funds would be earmarked for the private sector, startups and the academia is a long-awaited reform. This measure will be a shot in the arm for ‘Make in India’, raising innovation to unprecedented levels.

Having successfully deployed and tested the K-9 Vajra Howitzers in the Ladakh sector, the Indian Army is now planning to deploy K-9 Vajra howitzers in the high altitude mountains in the central and eastern sector of the line of actual control with China. The performance of the howitzer has been very good and fulfils the requirements of the Indian Army in high altitude areas.
26. Shares of Bharat Dynamics (BDL) hit a new high of Rs 535.70, on rallying 10 per cent on the BSE in Thursday’s intra-day trade after the company signed a contract worth Rs 3,131.82 crore with the Indian Army. The contract is for manufacture and supply of Konkurs – M AntiTank Guided Missiles to the Indian Army, and will be executed in three years.
