Flood alert issued in Andhra Pradesh Krishna district

1. Flood alert issued in Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district after Pulichintala dam gate washes away. Revenue department officials in Krishna district started evacuating people from low-lying areas along the river as the flood discharge will steadily increase to 6 lakh cusecs by Thursday night.

5. What is Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY): Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana is a food security welfare scheme announced by the Government of India in March 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic in India.
The program is operated by the Department of Food and Public Distribution under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.
This scheme as part of Atmanirbhar Bharat to supply free food grains to migrants and poor. During the period May – November 2021, more than 81.35 crore people will be provided 5 kg free wheat/rice per person / month along with 1 kg free whole chana to each family per month. Wheat has been allocated to 6 States/UTs, – Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Delhi and Gujarat and rice has been provided to the remaining States/UTs. This is over and above the regular monthly entitlements under National Food Security Act, 2013 (NFSA).

Families belonging to the Below Poverty Line – Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Priority Households (PHH) categories will be eligible for Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana scheme.

6. The University of Delhi, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Ladakh , which is one of the youngest University in the country, on 5th August 2021 for a period of five years.

7. Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the continuation of ‘Samagra Shiksha Scheme’ for school education for further five years. scheme would continue from April 1, 2021 to March 31, 2026. This scheme emphasises on improving the quality of school education by focussing on two T’s – Teacher and Technology.

8. What is samagra Shiksha scheme?
The Samagra Shiksha scheme is an integrated scheme for school education covering the entire gamut from pre-school to class XII. The scheme treats school education as a continuum and is in accordance with Sustainable Development Goal for Education (SDG-4).

9. No more registration fees for electric vehicles.The Indian govt has given the green signal to a landmark rule. In a bid to attract more people to consider and buy electric vehicles, the central government has scrapped the registration fees of electric cars completely.

Mr Kumar made an aerial survey of Patna,Nalanda,Gaya and Jehenabad. Meanwhile Ganga and Punpun is flowing above danger mark.

13. Bombay High Court has asked Maharashtra Govt to consider issuing a vaccination card to allow fully inoculated people to travel in local trains. Stating that it is a matter of livelihood of poor people who cannot afford to spend too much on travel.

14. In Chhattisgarh, one person was killed, 11 injured in a Maoist attack on 05 Aug morning in Dantewada district of Bastar division. Maoist triggered an IED blast targeting the vehicle carrying 12 civilians.

15. The Supreme Court on 05 Aug (Thursday) agreed to hear a batch of petitions seeking a court-monitored SIT probe into Pegasus snooping controversy on August 10 as it asked the petitioners to serve copies of their respective petition on the Centre.

16. In Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on 05 Aug (Thursday) held a “cycle yatra” to raise issues such as price rise, unemployment, farm laws and crime rate.

18. In Madhya Pradesh, the rescue & relief operations are continuing in full swing in the flood-affected areas. NDRF, SDRF, Army and BSF teams have rescued more than 6,000 people from 240 affected villages in Northern MP.

19. Punjab Sports Minister Rana Gurmeet Sodhi announced a cash award of Rs 1 crore each for the players from the state in the Indian men’s hockey team. Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) President Bibi Jagir Kaur has announced to award Rs 1 crore to the Indian hockey team. She said the SGPC will also award Rs 5 lakh each to all players of Punjab who are participating in Olympic.

20. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday spoke to members of Indian men’s hockey team over the telephone and congratulated them for winning an Olympic medal after 41 years.

21. President Ram Nath Kovind has congratulated Ravi Kumar Dahiya on winning silver medal in the 57kg freestyle wrestling competition and Indian Hockey Team victory for Bronze at Tokyo Olympics and bringing glory to India.

22. The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) has confirmed that it will launch the earth observation satellite EOS-3 aboard its GSLV Mk III vehicle on August 12 at 5.43am from the country’s only spaceport at Sriharikota.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is evaluating recent trial results in which Israel Weapon Industries (IWIs) Negev NG-7 light machine gun (LMG), fielded by PLR Systems owned by the Adani Group, has emerged as the front runner for the contract to supply the Indian Army (IA) 41,000 LMGs worth over Rs 2,200 crore.
