Buddha Purnima – Also known as Buddha Jayanti, the occasion is celebrated with much pomp and marks the birth anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha, revered as the founding figure of Buddhism. On this day, devotees vow to follow the teachings of Gautam Buddha, take a bath early in the morning to cleanse themselves of all impurities, clean their homes and follow rituals dedicated to the festival. Additionally, Buddha Purnima holds cultural and spiritual significance for the global community who follow Buddhism and is celebrated majorly in East Asia and South Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, Thailand, Tibet, China, Korea, Laos, Vietnam, Mongolia, Cambodia, Indonesia, and more.

DEFENCE

1. An Army helicopter crashed after a “hard landing” in a forested area in the upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on 04 May (Thursday) following a technical fault, killing a technician and injuring the two pilots on board.

The advanced light helicopter (ALH) Dhruv on an operational mission came down on the banks of a river in Marwah area, cut off from the district headquarters due to heavy snow.A court of inquiry has been ordered.

2. Indian Air Force pilots have started training on a C-295 transport aircraft simulator in Airbus’s Spanish facility in Seville. It was reported earlier that Spain will deliver the first military transport aircraft C-295 to the IAF in September.

3. Nigeria will be the first country to buy unspecified numbers of indigenously built Light Combat Helicopters (LCH) PRACHANDA.

4. INDIAN NAVY TO INDUCT 20 REMOTELY MANNED FAST INTERCEPTOR CRAFTS
Innovation For Defence Excellence (iDEX) has signed its 50th SPRINT contract with Sagar Defence for Autonomous Weaponised Boat Swarms for the Indian Navy. Autonomous Weaponised Boat is one of the technologies introduced out of the 75 challenges by the Indian Navy under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in 2022.

5. Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, Indian Navy is on a three-day official visit to Singapore, from 02 May.
