1. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has operationalisedthe Ashray facility for patients waiting outside the hospital to avail OPD services. The initiative, which has been started with the support of the Central Reserve Police Force, reflects AIIMS’ commitment to patient-centric care in addressing the challenges of overcrowding and discomfort during overnight waits for OPD services.

6. Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, released 184 new varieties of 25 crops with improved traits developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research at New Delhi. It includes 60 rice varieties, 50 maize and 13 oilseeds.
7. Rajasthan to host a Regional AI Impact Conference 2026 on January 6 in Jaipur.
8. The Election Commission has invited citizens to submit suggestions for improving the ECINet App, a unified digital platform aimed at enhancing voter services and election-related information. Citizens can share their feedback through the ‘Submit a Suggestion’ tab on the ECINet App till January 10.
9. Delhi’s Public Works Department has made QR codes mandatory on all new road signages. The move aims to improve transparency, ensure quality standards, and enable citizens to access manufacturer details and later lodge complaints through the PWD Sewa app.
10. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asked the state administration to tackle the typhoid outbreak in Gandhinagar on a war footing. Following detailed reviews with Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and senior officials, Mr. Shah who is a Member of Parliament from Gandhinagar, directed that all identified patients be provided prompt treatment from expert doctors.
11. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very dense fog conditions in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Odisha, Punjab, East Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh over the next two days. The Met department has also predicted dense fog over Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, West Uttar Pradesh and North-eastern India today.
12. Telangana is preparing for another spell of cold weather as meteorological authorities have issued a Cold Wave warning for the period between January 5 and January 12.

1. Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, has proceeded on a visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Sri Lanka, as part of India’s continued engagement to strengthen defence cooperation and military-to-military ties with friendly foreign countries.
2. The Indian Army signed a ₹293 crore emergency procurement contract with NIBE Limited for the Suryastra universal multi-calibre rocket launcher system, India’s first indigenous long-range precision rocket artillery with 150-300 km range capabilities including 300 km Predator Hawk missiles, 150 km EXTRA rockets, and 250 km DELILAH strike missiles with sub-5 meter accuracy.
3. The Indian Coast Guard is set to commission its first indigenously built pollution control vessel, Samudra Pratap. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the 114.5-meter ship on January 5. This advanced vessel boasts over 60 percent indigenous content. It will significantly boost India’s capabilities in marine pollution control, maritime law enforcement, and search and rescue operations.
4. The Indian Navy is on track to induct ships at the rate of one every one-and-a-half months in the coming year, fuelling the economy as its maritime muscle is strengthened. This pace—roughly one warship every six weeks—is expected to continue through 2026. That schedule says a great deal about India’s maritime priorities.
5. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed a portable seawater desalination system to meet the drinking water needs of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force (Tri-Services).
This compact system can convert seawater into potable (drinking) water, especially useful in island territories, coastal areas, ships, submarines, and disaster-relief operations. It is lightweight, energy-efficient, easy to operate.
6. The Indian Army is on the cusp of becoming the world’s first armed force to operationally deploy ramjet-powered artillery shells for its 155 mm guns. The advanced technology, developed in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and with support of Army Technology Board (ATB), is now under trial.
7. DRDO Chief confirmed the Tejas Mk2 program remains on schedule with first flight targeted for June-July 2026 (Q1 fiscal year) after HAL completes prototype assembly and rollout by March 2026, with the aircraft powered by GE F414 engines undergoing systems integration and comprehensive ground testing to validate aerodynamics, propulsion, and mission systems.
8. Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma visited the frontline Indian Navy platforms, including INS Himgiri, an indigenously-built advanced stealth frigate of the Eastern Fleet, and a Kalvari Class submarine in Visakhapatnam on Sunday (January 4).
