1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall and snowfall over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. The movement of several trains has been affected as dense fog has engulfed the northern region of the country, causing low visibility. According to Indian Railways, nearly 40 Delhi-bound trains have been delayed by up to five hours.

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and lay the foundation stone of multiple developmental projects in Delhi worth over 12,200 crore rupees. A 13-kilometre stretch of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor between Sahibabad and New Ashok Nagar, worth around 4,600 crore rupees.

7. The Telangana government has expanded the Rythu Bharosa scheme to provide ₹7,500 per acre to around 70 lakh farmers, starting in January 2025. This financial assistance aims to support farmers during each crop season.

8. Maharashtra is currently scrutinising beneficiaries of the Ladki Bahin scheme. This initiative, launched in June 2024, aimed to support women from economically weaker sections by providing monthly financial assistance. The government is now ensuring that only eligible women, specifically those with an annual family income below ₹2.5 lakh, receive these funds.

11. The Telangana government on Friday, 3 January launched the Mobile Fish Retail Outlets (MFROs) programme in the state, at the event held at Praja Bhavan. Each retail outlet vehicle, originally costing Rs 10.38 lakh, would be given for Rs 4 lakh, with Rs 6 lakh as subsidies.

1. Emphasising need to protect interests of senior citizens, many of whom are ignored by their children and left to fend for themselves once they hand over property by executing a gift deed, Supreme Court held that such deeds signed by parents could be quashed under Maintenance and Welfare of the Parents and Senior Citizens Act if the children fail to take care of them.

1. The Indian Army has introduced a significant change in its promotion policy for Lieutenant Generals, shifting to a merit-based system. This new policy will be implemented on 31 March 2025, and aims to enhance the selection process for top positions in tri-service theatre commands through a quantified assessment system.

2. Afcons Infrastructure has secured a significant contract valued at ₹1,084.54 crore from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), as announced on 3 January 2025. This project involves the augmentation of the Maritime Theatre Command (MTC) and the creation of a Ship Lift Facility (AMCSWF) at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
