1. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today said that the severe day cold and day cold conditions are likely to continue over some parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan during the next two days.

2. The Government has launched PRERANA, an experiential learning programme for developing leadership qualities in students. The Union Education Ministry said Prerana is driven by a strong commitment to integrate principles of the Indian education system and the philosophy of value-based education which is a cornerstone of the National Education Policy 2020. It is a week-long residential programme for selected students of classes 9th to 12th.
3. Bellatrix Aerospace team with ISRO Chief S Somanath Two Indian space start-ups have found success under ISRO’s POEM initiative. Space start-up Dhruv Space has successfully tested its P30 satellite platform, while Bellatrix Aerospace has successfully tested its green propulsion system.

1. India’s President has appointed Justice Sanjiv Khanna, the senior-most judge of the Supreme Court, as the NALSA Executive Chairperson, succeeding Justice S. K. Kaul.

2. An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Hadigam area of Kulgam district.

3. In J&K, Javed Ahmed Mattoo, a wanted terrorist of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen in Jammu and Kashmir, was caught in Delhi on Thursday.

4. A sessions court on Wednesday sentenced to death two men, including one from Bangladesh, for carrying out the Shramjivi Express train blast in 2005 that left at least 14 people dead and 62 injured.

Hilaluddin, a resident of Bangladesh has been accused of planting a bomb on the train, Nafikul Biswas who is a resident of West Bengal was accused of helping him. Two others in the Shramjeevi train blast case were given death sentences in 2016.

5. The Commission of Inquiry headed by former Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court Justice Ajay Lamba which was formed to investigate the cause and spread of violence in Manipur from the 3rd of May last year extended the last date of the submission of the affidavits.

6. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on January 4 said it has imposed monetary penalty on five co-operative banks for rule violations.

1. ALL-WOMEN CONTINGENTS TO MARCH IN REPUBLIC DAY PARADE : The contingent will include women Agniveer soldiers from the Navy and Air Force. Another all-women contingent from the Directorate General of the Armed Forces Medical Services will feature nurses from the military nursing services, led by women doctors at the parade. All-women contingent consisting of 144 personnel.
