1. India’s COVID vaccination coverage has crossed 147 crore.

2. A total of one thousand 1892 cases of Omicron have been reported in the country so far. Out of the total cases, Maharashtra has reported 568 followed by Delhi with 382, Kerala with 185 cases, and Rajasthan has reported 174 cases. Union Health Ministry said, till now, 766 people have recovered from the infection.

3. PM inaugurates, lays foundation stone of various development projects in Manipur; says, players of State are inspiring youth of country.

4. PM Modi inaugurated the New Integrated Terminal Building of Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport and launched key initiatives like Mukhyamantri Tripura Gram Samriddhi Yojana and Project Mission 100 of Vidyajyoti Schools at Agartala in Tripura.

5. Centre suspends Biometric Attendance for government employees till 31st Jan.

6. Women and Child Development Ministry has invited nominations for Nari Shakti Puraskar 2021 to be awarded on the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8th March this year. The nominations will be accepted only through online mode on
www.awards.gov.in. All nominations received upto 31st January will be considered for the Nari Shakti Puraskar.

7. Addressing the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha, the Vice President recalled that the “Nai Talim” proposed by Mahatma Gandhi in Wardha in 1937 laid emphasis on making mother tongue as the medium of instruction in addition to free compulsory education and skill training to the students.

8. PM Modi to visit Ferozepur today and lay foundation stone of multiple development projects worth more than 42,750 crore rupees. These projects include Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, four laning of Amritsar-Una section, Mukerian-Talwara New Broad Gauge railway line, PGI Satellite Centre at Ferozepur and two new medical colleges at Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur.

9. The 669-kilometre long Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway will be developed at a total cost of about 39 thousand 500 crore rupees. It will reduce travel time from Delhi to Amritsar and Delhi to Katra. The four laning of Amritsar – Una section will be done at the cost of around 1700 crore rupees.

10. Gaganyaan launch before Aug 15, Chandrayaan 3 by mid-2023: Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairperson K Sivan said that they are targeting the launch of the first of the two planned unmanned flights under the Gaganyaan mission before this year’s Independence Day. The Chairperson also said that the third lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 could be launched by mid-2023 as the mission’s design changes and its testing has seen huge progress.

11. KARNATAKA govt on Tuesday imposed weekend curfew from Friday 10 pm-Monday 5 am and said night curfew will continue. Cinema halls, pubs, restaurants can operate with 50% capacity and fully-vaccinated people will be allowed. Malls can function usually during weekdays.

12. MAHARASHTRA : Mumbai Police has detained a woman, the main accused in the ‘Bulli Bai’ case — in which photos of Muslim women were uploaded on an app for ‘auction’, from Uttarakhand. The woman is being brought to Mumbai for investigation.

13. PUNJAB Govt imposed night curfew in municipal limits of all cities and towns in the state with certain exceptions amid surge in Covid-19 positive cases. The curfew will be effective from 10pm to 5am.

Schools in Noida, Ghaziabad, Hapur, and Greater Noida have been shut down after witnessing a surge in Omicron cases and severe cold waves. Till January 14, 2022.

15. In the forex market, the rupee weakened 30 paise against the US dollar. The domestic unit closed at 74 rupees and 56 paise against the US currency.

16. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has said India’s exports in December surged 37% on an annual basis to 37.29 billion US Dollars, which is highest-ever monthly figure. He said India’s exports of goods will cross 400 billion dollars this fiscal. Imports in December too rose by 38% to 59.27 billion dollars on account of an increase in oil imports, which soared 65.17% to 15.9 billion dollars.

17. Reserve Bank of India on Tuesday cancelled the Certificate of Authorisation (CoA) of two Payment System Operators (PSOs) – Muthoot Vehicle and Asset Finance and Eko India Financial Services. The CoA were cancelled citing non-compliance with regulatory requirements.

18. A Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Tuesday rejected Javed Akhtar’s plea for the issuance of a non-bailable warrant in his defamation case against Kangana Ranaut. He had sought the warrant as Kangana failed to appear before the court. Akhtar’s plea listed the number of exemptions the actress had sought since March 2021. He had filed the defamation case in November 2020.

19. Actor Sonu Sood and his sister Malvika Sood Sachar on Tuesday distributed 1,000 bicycles to school girls and social workers of their hometown Moga under their initiative Moga di Dhi. Students from around 40-45 villages near Moga will reportedly benefit from the campaign

20. Director-General of National Cadet Corps, Lt General Gurbirpal Singh formally inaugurated NCC Republic Day Camp – 2022 at Delhi Cantt. The Republic Day Camp is held at the culmination of one complete year of training of NCC cadets and is conducted at Parade Ground, Delhi Cantonment from 1st to 29th January every year. The Camp is attended by around 2,200 cadets, specially selected from all over India.

21. Indian Army to get a new uniform! First look on January 15. Keeping in line with Make in India, the uniform of the soldiers has been designed jointly by the Indian Army & National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). The newly designed fabric for the soldier’s uniform is not going to be available in the open market and will be issued to officers and soldiers in batches in their units. To meet the requirement of the 13 lakh strong Indian Army there are plans to issue an open tender to both the private and public sector companies – who will supply and make these new Battle Dress Uniforms (BDU).

22. The Indian Navy’s 1971 Indo-Pak war veteran Vice Admiral S H Sarma passed away in Bhubaneswar on Monday. Sarma, who turned 99 last December, was the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet during the 1971 war.

23. Indian Army unfurls national flag in Galwan Valley on New Year; troops on both sides India and China outside buffer zone. India Today TV has accessed pictures showing Indian Army soldiers with the national flag and the newly inducted US-made Sig Sauer rifles posing in Galwan Valley on New Year.

24. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will be given a detailed presentation on CDS Bipin Rawat’s chopper crash inquiry by the tri-services inquiry team, headed by Air Marshal Manvendra Singh on 05 Jan, today. The inquiry committee includes a top Navy pilot, who had made an important contribution to the crash probe of the Mi-17.

25. The Indian Navy’s Boeing P-8I aircraft commenced operations on Tuesday from Goa’s INS Hansa after two aircraft arrived on December 30. The aircraft were inducted after fitment of indigenous equipment and Flight Acceptance Trials. Indian Navy had acquired first batch of eight P-8I aircraft in 2013. The Centre signed a deal with Boeing for four additional P-8I aircraft in 2016.
