Rahul Gandhi eligible to return to Parliament as early as Monday. Supreme Court stayed Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in Modi surname defamation case, paving the way for a possible reinstatement as Wayanad MP. While the matter has already been flagged by Congress lawmakers, he will only be able to return to Parliament following a notice from the Lok Sabha secretariat.

6. A Parliamentary panel has recommended reducing minimum age for contesting elections from 25 to 18 years.

7. Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar stressed that the government is regulating imports to ensure trusted and verifiable systems.

8. The Government has envisioned developing a National Maritime Heritage Complex-NMHC at Lothal near Ahmedabad to boost India’s rich and diverse maritime heritage.

9. Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will inaugurate the second season of Inter-Ministry Bar and Bench Badminton Championship on Saturday.

10. Jammu and Kashmir, the 33rd batch of over 1100 pilgrims left for the cave shrine of Amarnath from Jammu early morning today for the twin base camps of Baltal and yesterday in Kashmir.

With this, 1,46,363 pilgrims have now departed the Jammu base camp for the Kashmir Valley since June 30. So far, a total of 4,10,095 pilgrims have visited the Amarnath Cave Shrine this year.

11. The Supreme Court on Friday refused to stop the ASI survey at the Gyanvapi complex at Varanasi.

12. The consecration ceremony of Ram Janmabhoomi will take place in the third week of January next year. Three dates – 21, 22, and 23 of January have been fixed for the consecration ceremony.

13. HIMACHAL PRADESH CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Friday met PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi and apprised him of the losses incurred due to heavy rainfall. He seeks financial aid for flood-hit Himachal state.

14. RAJASTHAN Cabinet on Friday approved the proposal of a high-level committee to form 19 new districts and three new divisions in the state. Rajasthan will now have 50 districts, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Aparna Arora said. The new districts include Jaipur North, Jaipur South, Jodhpur East, Jodhpur West, Anupgarh, Dudu, Kekri, Khairthal, Phalodi and Balotra, among others.

15. TELANGANA : In a twist to the proposed merger of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) with the state government, Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan on Friday said that she would sign the Bill only after examining all legal issues, which “requires some more time.”

Consequently, the BRS government’s plans to introduce the Bill in the ongoing monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly, which ends on Sunday.

1. Haryana: 202 people arrested, 80 detained in connection with violence in Nuh.

Speaking on the clashes that broke out in Nuh, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said that a special committee, including members of IT cell, has been formed to scan posts on social media. “During the scan, if it’s revealed that someone has put out inciteful posts, then action will be taken,” Vij said. Six persons were killed in the clashes.

2. Congress leader Jagdish Tytler was granted anticipatory bail by a Delhi court in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

The judge warned him against tampering with the evidence or influencing witnesses. In his plea, Tytler said he has never been arrested during the investigation in the case spanning nearly 40 years. The 79-year-old said he is suffering from various ailments.

3. The Supreme Court deferred hearing on interim bail plea of former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in Delhi excise policy case yesterday.

4. The Supreme Court has stayed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his Modi surname remark, pending final adjudication of his appeal by the apex court.

5. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested one more person in the West Bengal electric detonators and explosives seizure case.With the fresh arrest, a total of eight people have been arrested in the case so far.

6. The anti-terror investigating agency, NIA, carried out raids at the house of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Omar Ganie in Kashmir’s Kulgam on Friday. The agency also raided five different locations in connection with a terror-related case.

7. The Pimpri Chinchwad police in Pune district has arrested two persons for allegedly cheating martyred Flight Lieutenant Kunal Barpatte’s father by promising to buy land where he planned to set up a technical education institute in his son’s memory.

1. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired a meeting with Chairpersons and senior officials of Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) from Southern Region in Chennai.

2. Axis Bank has collaborated with Kiwi, a fintech company, to offer life time free Axis Bank KWIK virtual credit card to Kiwi app users.

The implementation of the restrictions on the import of laptops, personal computers (PCs), tablets and other related items has been stayed till October 31, the government said in a notification issued late on August 4. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said that a valid licence for restricted imports will be required “with effect from November 1”.

4. Former Microsoft India President Anant Maheshwari has been named President and CEO of technology company Honeywell.

5. The Finance Ministry of India, upgraded two leading oil sector companies, Oil India and ONGC Videsh, to the prestigious Maharatna and Navratna categories, respectively.

6. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed late submission fees amounting to ₹2,000 crore on four major public sector undertakings namely, ONGC Videsh Ltd, Indian Oil Corp. Ltd, GAIL (India) Ltd, and Oil India Ltd for failing to promptly report their overseas investments.

7. Onion prices are likely to start shooting up in the retail market towards the end of August before going up further to around Rs 60-70 per kg next month due to tightened supplies.

1. Bollywood art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai’s funeral was held at ND Studio in Karjat on Friday. His family members, including his son and daughter participated in their father’s last rite rituals. His daughter was seen shouldering his mortal remains to the cremation ground. Several Bollywood celebrities including Aamir Khan, Sonali Kulkarni and Ashutosh Gowariker attended the funeral.

2. Police in Maharashtra on Friday registered an FIR in connection with the death of renowned art director Nitin Desai, the police officials said. The FIR has been registered on the complaint of Neha Nitin Desai, the late art director’s wife. According to the police, the FIR has been registered against five people of ECL Finance company.

1. The Lok Sabha has approved the Inter-Services Organisation (Command, Control and Discipline) Bill-2023, with the aim of enhancing operational efficiency and discipline within the Indian Armed Forces.

5. Two US Navy sailors, Jinchao Wei and Petty Officer Wenheng Zhao, in Southern California were arrested for allegedly sharing military secrets with Chinese intelligence officers.

6. In yet another attack on Russian naval infrastructure, Ukraine appears to have struck a Russian landing ship tank (LST), near the port of Novorossiysk in Krasnodar.The ship was reportedly attacked by the Ukrainians.
