1. Rajya Sabha on Thursday passed the Family Courts (Amendment) Bill, 2022 which sought to amend the Family Courts Act, 1984 to establish family courts in Himachal Pradesh with effect from February 15, 2019, and in Nagaland with effect from September 12, 2008. The Lok Sabha has already cleared the Bill.

2. The National Testing Agency NTA has said that the Common University Entrance Test CUET-UG scheduled was postponed at a few centres across 17 states due to administrative and technical reasons.

3. The govt has made a free entry for the visitors and tourists to all its protected monuments and sites across the country from 5th to 15th August. The Director General of Archeological Survey of India has said that no fee will be charged at all the ticketed centrally protected monuments and Archaeological sites from 5th to 15th August this year.

5. *ANDHRA PRADESH* :
YSRCP MP Gorantla Madhav has filed a complaint claiming that leaders of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had morphed his face into a nude video to taint his image. The video, which he claims is “morphed”, allegedly shows him having a video call with an unidentified woman. TDP leaders alleged that the MP had sexually harassed the woman in the video.

6. *ASSAM* CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that parents should keep a watch on what subjects their children are being taught in madrasas. The Jamiul Huda Madrasa in Moirabari was demolished for links to a Bangladesh-based terror outfit. The CM said, “We have already abolished 800 government madrasas in Assam. But there are many Qawmi madrasas in the state.

7. *DELHI* on Thursday recorded 2,202 COVID cases, the highest in six months.

8. *GUJARAT* : PM Modi virtually inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of various projects of the Shrimad Rajchandra Mission worth more than Rs 300 crore at Dharampur in Gujarat.

11. *J&K* : A labourer from Bihar was killed and two others injured in a grenade attack by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday.

12. *MAHARASHTRA* : Autorickshaw unions in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas have decided to go on a half-day strike on August 9. They also plan to hold protests outside MP Girish Bapat’s office. This comes after the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) increased by ₹6 per kg in Pune.

13. *RAJASTHAN* : Over 4,000 animals, mostly cows, have been killed and another 90,000 were infected by the lumpy skin disease in Rajasthan. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday appealed to herders to contact veterinary centres if they see signs of the viral disease.

14. *TELANGANA* Governor asks students to participate in Har Ghar Tiranga programme as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

15. Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao formally inaugurates State Police Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Hyderabad.

17. *UTTAR PRADESH* : Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan has been admitted to an ICU of Medanta hospital in Lucknow. The 73-year-old leader, who complained of breathlessness, was found suffering from pneumonia on Wednesday.

18. *NEW APPOINTMENT* : Chief Justice of India NV Ramana has recommended Justice UU Lalit’s name as his successor. Justice Lalit to become the 49th Chief Justice of India. Chief Justice Ramana will be retiring August 26.

1. *TAMIL NADU* Idol Wing CID recovered nine stolen sculptures from a house in Broadway in Chennai. The idols, believed to be nearly 300 years old, are estimated to be worth crores of rupees. The house belonged to Pamela Emanuel, wife of late Manuel Pineiro, who was reportedly an idol smuggler.

2. *MAHARASHTRA* Anti Terrorism Squad has arrested an associate of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim in a terror funding case. Parvez Zuber Vaid Memon, who is allegedly involved in “anti-national activities”, was picked up from his home in suburban Versova, an official said. The FIR in the matter has also named Dawood’s younger brother Anees Ibrahim.

4. The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) installed a 72-feet-tall national flag at ITBP Academy in Mussoorie, in association with Flag Foundation of India. The installation was done to spread awareness for the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign and is dedicated to the martyrs of the freedom struggle. The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign is a part of the 76th Independence Day celebrations.
