Cloudburst In Sikkim Triggers Flash Floods, 23 Soldiers Missing
A cloudburst in North Sikkim caused a sudden rise in the water level of river Teesta, and triggered flash floods. As many as 23 Army personnel have been reported missing after their vehicles were swept away by the floodwaters. The flash floods occurred in the wake of a cloudburst over Lhonak Lake in North Sikkim.

1. India Meteorological Department, IMD has said that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to continue in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Sikkim, North Odisha during the next three days.

2. Massive tremors were felt in the Northern part of the country including National Capital Delhi on Tuesday after two earthquakes with magnitude 4.6 and 6.2 hit Nepal. National Centre for Seismology said, the epicenter was Nepal at a depth of 5 kilometres. The first earthquake hit at 2:25 pm and second at 2:51 pm on Tuesday afternoon.

13. MAHARASHTRA Shiv Sena MP Hemant Patil on Tuesday made the acting dean of the government hospital in Nanded, where 31 patients have died in 48 hours, clean a dirty toilet and urinals, a video of which has gone viral.

14. The Maharashtra government and the Victoria and Albert (V&A) Museum in London signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, allowing the 17th-century weapon ‘Tiger Claws’ believed to have belonged to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, to be displayed in India.

15. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has urged food vendors and consumers to stop using newspapers for packing, storing, and serving food items, with immediate effect. Reportedly, the food regulator said that the ink used in newspapers contains certain chemicals that can pose various health risks. FSSAI Chief Executive Officer (CEO) G Kamala Vardhana Rao said.

1. India’s Gross Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenues witnessed a significant slowdown, growing at the slowest pace in 27 months. The growth rate dropped to 10.2% from the previous months’ approximately 10.8%.

1. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is making significant strides towards enhancing its air defense capabilities with the impending induction of indigenous Astra Beyond Visual Range (BVR) Air-to-Air Missiles. The IAF has entered into contracts with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for these advanced missiles.

2. The Indian Air Force is in the process of finalising a ₹ 1.15 lakh crore deal to procure an additional batch of 97 TEJAS MK-1A aircraft besides upgrading 84 Sukhoi Su-30MKI jets at a cost of ₹ 60,000 crore, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari said on Tuesday.

3. Bangladesh have kicked off the 11th edition of their annual joint military exercise, SAMPRITI, on October 3, 2023, in Umroi, Meghalaya. This exercise, which alternates between the two nations, highlights the strong bilateral defense cooperation between them.

SAMPRITI, initiated in 2009, aims to boost interoperability, share tactical expertise, and promote best practices between the Indian and Bangladeshi armies. SAMPRITI-XI is scheduled for a duration of 14 days and involves approximately 350 personnel from both India and Bangladesh.

4. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has put forth a proposal to procure three airborne intelligence gathering aircraft as part of an ambitious project focused on developing indigenous sensor technologies and systems. These airborne Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) platforms are crucial for real-time battlefield mapping and monitoring of enemy movements. The IAF is seeking approval for a ₹6,000 crore project for this purpose.

5. The Navy will hold a seminar at Bharat Mandapam, the venue of the G20 summit, on October 4 and 5 (Wednesday and Thursday) where a range of India-made technologies will be displayed. Officials from more than 50 countries are expected to attend the Swavlamban seminar.The Indian Navy will hold a seminar at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan.

Army Chief General Manoj Pande’s ongoing visit to Tanzania – one of India’s reliable partners on the east coast of Africa – is yet another major step towards enhancing the security of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of SAGAR – Safety and Growth for All in the Region.

This initiative is a crucial element of the AUKUS program, which involves collaboration between the UK, Australia, and the United States.
