1. India Meteorological Department (IMD) says fresh western disturbance, starting today likely to affect Northwest India during next two days.

2. World Cancer Day, observed globally on February 4 each year, aims to raise awareness about cancer, its prevention, and the importance of early detection.

3. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing up for the launch of its state-of-the-art meteorological satellite, INSAT-3DS. The spacecraft is likely to launch on February 17, 2024 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota aboard the GSLV-F14 rocket.

4. PM Modi directed ISRO to dream bigger and aim for assembling its own space station and human missions to the lunar surface. ISRO has drawn up a roadmap ahead, and accelerate the missions in its planned programmes. Apart from the primary goal of returning samples, the Chandrayaan 4 mission may attempt to 3D print on the Moon.

(a) A demonstration of 3D printing on the lunar surface will allow ISRO to develop the capabilities for what is known as In-Situ Resource Utilisation (ISRU) by the USA and as Local Resource Utilisation (LRU) in China.

(b) 3D printing using the locally sourced lunar Regolith as ink can allow future lunar explorers to quickly produce tools, spare parts, bricks and even entire habitats.

5. Veteran BJP leader LK Advani responded to the Bharat Ratna award conferred to him on Saturday and said that it is an honour not only for him as a person but also for the ideals and principles he stood by. He expressed his gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu and PM Modi for bestowing him with Bharat Ratna.

6. Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is on a two-day visit to Assam will address a huge public meeting in Guwahati today.

7. In Odisha PM Modi inaugurates, dedicates, and lays the foundation stone for multiple infrastructure projects worth more than 68,000 crores.

8. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandviya inaugurates various healthcare facilities at All India institute of Medical sciences (AIIMS) Gorakhpur virtually.

9. UTTARAKHAND UCC DRAFT: The five-member government-appointed panel, headed by retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai, Friday submitted the four-volume report running into 749 pages to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.

*A complete ban on polygamy and child marriage, a common marriageable age for girls across all faiths and enforcing similar grounds and procedures for divorce are understood to be among the major recommendations of a panel which drafted a Uniform Civil Code for Uttarakhand.

10. Second runway at Delhi Airport operational now, to ease fog-related congestions. Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared on X (formerly Twitter) that CAT III has been activated on the runway.

11. In Bihar, the Portfolio allocation has been made among cabinet ministers of State government. CM Nitish Kumar has kept important departments like Home, General Administration, Cabinet Secretariat and Election with him.

12. Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang inaugurated the Sikkim Premier League 2024 at Paljor Stadium. The grand ceremony marked the beginning of a month-long football spectacle featuring eight teams from Sikkim’s six districts.

13. Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi addresses inaugural function of “Awake – Youth for Nation – Youth Sangam “in Kozhikode in Kerala, as part of the Youth Day celebrations.

14. The National Law Commission has submitted a report to the Union Law Ministry, recommending stringent provisions in cases involving vandalism of public and private properties, following the Kerala model. The report highlights a provision in Kerala wherein individuals responsible for destroying public property are required to deposit an amount equivalent to the loss caused by their vandalism.

15. Speaking on the occasion of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Government of Maharashtra in Mumbai today, Mr Gadkari said that the ropeways will be developed in various parts of the state, and suggested early preparation of ‘Detailed Project Report’ to proceed with the work faster.

1. Ladakh observed a complete shutdown on Saturday as thousands gathered in Leh to demand constitutional safeguards, protection of cultural identity and environment, and Statehood for the Union Territory.

2. Enforcement Directorate on Saturday filed a complaint against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a court in new Delhi for not appearing before it in a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam.

4. A local Shiv Sena leader was in critical condition on Saturday after a Bharatiya Janata Party MLA shot him inside a police station in Thane district, prompting the opposition to demand Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s resignation over the deteriorating law and order situation.

Ganpat Gaikwad (56), MLA of Kalyan in Thane district, admitted to opening fire, telling a news channel that he was provoked as his son was being beaten up in the presence of police during the incident that took place on Friday night.

1. Poonam Pandey Is Alive; Shares A Video Spreading Awareness On ‘Cervical Cancer’

Poonam Pandey’s fake death stunt makes people furious: Many times she controversies since 2011. She faked her own death to raise awareness about cervical cancer.

A day after her team shared the news that she ‘died of cervical cancer at 32’, Poonam posted videos on Saturday announcing that she is ‘alive’. Citing the reason for the fake news, Poonam shared that she took the step to spread awareness about cervical cancer.

(a) In 2011, Poonam shot into the limelight, when she said she would strip for Team India if they won the cricket World Cup.

(b) Poonam in 2012 stripped after Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL season five. She had tweeted the nude picture of herself and said, “Here is a pic as I promised.”

(c) In 2019, Poonam had filed a police complaint against Shilpa Shetty’s husband, Raj Kundra. She claimed that her personal mobile number was leaked on the app and she was inundated with calls and obscene messages.

(d) In 2020, Poonam was detained by Goa Police for allegedly trespassing into a government property and shooting an obscene video in Goa. A case was also registered against her for obscenity during the shoot at the Chapoli dam in Canacona town, following a complaint by the state water resources department.

1. The Indian Navy commissioned its latest survey vessel, Sandhayak, at Naval Dockyard in Vizag on Saturday in the presence of defence minister Rajnath Singh, along with Admiral R Hari Kumar, the chief of the naval staff.

(a) INS Sandhayak is the first in a series of four Survey Vessel (Large) ships being constructed at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata.

(b) Measuring 110 meters in length and displacing 3400 tons, INS Sandhayak has an indigenous content of over 80 per cent by cost.

(c) This ship is re-incarnated in its present avatar from erstwhile Sandhayak, which was decommissioned in 2021.

(d) INS Sandhayak is equipped with cutting-edge hydrographic tools, including a Data Acquisition and Processing System, Autonomous Underwater Vehicle, Remotely Operated Vehicle.

2. India is set to get the game-changing MQ-9B predator drones as the United States has approved sale of 31 of the deadly UAVs to New Delhi.

(a) These drones have multiple capabilities. They will give you a clear battlefield transparency along the LAC. You will be able to know what are Chinese PLA’s capabilities across the Line of Actual Control (LAC), that includes aircraft, bunkers, rockets and missile systems.

(b) MQ-9B is equipped with four Hellfire missiles that have a range of 11 kilometres. It is also equipped with at least two laser-guided bombs which have a range of 150 kilometres using a glide vehicle.

(c) At present, India has two Sky Guardian drones on lease from General Atomics and are based at INS Rajali in Tamil Nadu. When the Chinese transgression took place in East Ladakh, India used these drones for surveillance capabilities.

3. MILAN 24 Exercise would be the twelfth edition and it would be conducted from 19-27 Feb 24 at Visakhapatnam.

(a) MILAN 24 is likely to witness its largest-ever participation with invites extended to over 58 friendly foreign navies. MILAN 24 exercise would comprise of two phases – ‘Harbour Phase’ and ‘Sea Phase’.

(b) MILAN exercise, which translates into ‘meeting’ or ‘gathering’ in Hindi, was incepted in 1995 as a biennial multinational event which flourished under the aegis of Andaman and Nicobar Command till its 10th edition and later shifted to Visakhapatnam with 11th edition.

4. The Indian Army and Indian Navy elements including attack helicopters are expected to demonstrate their prowess in the ‘Vayu Shakti’. The exercise ‘Vayu Shakti’ has been going on since 1954.

The exercise is scheduled to be held on February 17 in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer. “All frontline aircraft, including the Rafale fighter jets and Prachand attack choppers, would be taking part in Exercise ‘Vayu Shakti’. We would also be airlifting Army guns in the exercise.

5. India has increased its defences along its de facto border with Pakistan in the disputed Kashmir region. The country is concerned about a potential surprise attack by militants inspired by the Palestinian Hamas movement’s successful infiltration of Israel.

6. India’s first private UAV manufacturing facility has delivered over 20 Hermes 900 medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) UAVs to Israel.

Hyderabad-based Adani-Elbit Advanced Systems India Ltd, a joint venture company between India’s Adani Defence and Aerospace and Israel’s Elbit Systems, became the first entity to manufacture the UAVs outside of Israel.

7. INS Karanj, an Indian Navy submarine, arrived in the port of Colombo on Thursday, ahead of Sri Lanka’s 76th Independence Day celebrations on Sunday. On a two-day visit, the submarine was welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy.
