The Navy chief Admiral R Hari Kumar said women officers have been appointed on board almost all major warships: The Indian Navy has deployed 28 women officers on board a dozen warships that are operationally deployed in the high seas, and all future inductions including the indigenous aircraft carrier will have them on board. With the Navy now offering permanent commission to women, the force could eventually see women as commanding officers of critical warships over the next two decades.
27. A total of 19 woman cadets will be trained at National Defence Academy from June next year, Defense establishment sources said. It will take three years for their squadron to be operationalised. This squadron of women cadets would be named Sierra. The first-ever batch of 19 women cadets will comprise of 10 cadets who will be trained for the Indian Army, six for Indian Air Force and the remaining will be trained for the Indian Navy.
