Tirthankara is the ultimate form of a being or the saviour who has succeeded in the cycle of rebirths close to attaining salvation or Nirvana.

2. The government has selected one lakh 40 thousand pilgrims to perform Haj this year through the Random Digital Selection process. Minority Affairs Ministry said, out of the total selected pilgrims, over ten thousand persons are of above 70 years of age.

3. Parliament has passed the Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2023 with the Rajya Sabha approving it today amid din without discussion. The Lok Sabha cleared the Bill last week.

The Competition Amendment Bill, 2023 seeks to amend the Competition Act, 2002, to regulate mergers and acquisitions based on the value of transactions.

4. Both the Houses of Parliament yesterday continued to witness disruption for thirteen consecutive days over the Adani group issue and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on Indian democracy. The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha adjourned to meet again on Wednesday.

5. Congress Party Central Election Committee to hold a meeting in New Delhi to release second list of candidates for Karnataka Assembly polls.

6. Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has said that new ceiling prices of 651 out of 870 essential medicines have been notified so far. He said, due to this, the approved ceiling price of medicines has decreased by an average of over 16%.

7. Ahmedabad authorities have ordered the closure of all slaughterhouses and shops selling meat, fish and chicken on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti on Tuesday.

8. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has apologised after a video of his remarks about a High Court judge went viral on social media. Speaking on the 2019 Haryana Police constable recruitment, Khattar said that the judge has “some problem in his head” and that “he will be fixed”.

9. Communist Party of India (CPI) to organise a roundtable meeting on crimes against Dalits & minorities in Andhra Pradesh, at Dasari Bhavan Vijayawada.

10. Uttar Pradesh government schools will adopt from this academic session the National Council of Educational Research and Training’s (NCERT’s) new Class 12 history textbooks in which portions about Mughal courts have been removed.

11. Central Water Commission (CWC) on Monday ordered the Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) and the AP government to conduct a joint survey on the submergence areas of Telangana on account of the dam’s backwaters.

12. A Parliamentary committee recently asked the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) to decide on a priority basis the cases pending disposal for more than 10 years.

1. An FIR has been filed against Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar for allegedly handing out cash during a rally on March 28 ahead of the upcoming Karnataka Assembly polls.

2. Delhi lawyers to ‘completely abstain’ from work in all district courts in protest of a fellow lawyer’s killing.

3. A special court on Monday extended the judicial custody of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia till April 17 in a corruption case related to the alleged Delhi excise scam.

4. A sessions court in Gujarat’s Surat city on Monday granted bail to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after admitting his appeal against conviction in a 2019 criminal defamation case over his “Modi surname” remark in which he has been sentenced to two years in jail, a defence lawyer said.

The existing shareholders of Haldiram Snacks and Haldiram Foods have acquired a 56% and a 44% stake, respectively, in Haldiram Snacks Food.

4. The government has said 42.7 lakh loans amounting to over five thousand crore rupees have been disbursed to 34.47 lakh street vendors under Prime Minister Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme in the country till 23rd of last month.
