GRAP Stage-III activated: Delhi takes drastic measures to tackle pollution
Amid the declining air quality in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) invoked a set of restrictions on November 2 under Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

1. PM Modi will inaugurate the Mega food event ‘World Food India 2023’ in New Delhi.

2. The second edition of World Food India 2023 will be organised from the 3rd of November to the 5th of November at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. More than 1200 exhibitors will be participating in this event.

3. The Election Commission and the Ministry of Education signed a Memorandum of Understanding to bring electoral literacy to classrooms across the country.

4. UPSC tightens guidelines for appointment of State DGPs. Only police officers with at least six months of service left before retirement will be considered for appointment as the Director General of Police of a State, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) said in amended guidelines. Several States have appointed acting DGPs to avoid UPSC process.

5. National Highway Authority has set up a Dust and Control Management Center to control dust at the construction sites in view of a dip in air quality in the national capital, Delhi.

6. All government and private primary schools in Delhi will remain closed for the next two days in view of the rising pollution levels.

7. Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Bhagwanth Khuba inaugurated the fifth Indian Chemical Council Sustainability Conclave in New Delhi.

8. *OLD TUNNEL ON KASHMIR HIGHWAY TO BE TRANSFORMED AS TOURIST DESTINATION*: After the inauguration of the twin-tube tunnel between Banihal and Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, authorities have decided to renovate and transform the old Jawahar tunnel on the highway as a new tourist destination.

The 2.85-km Jawahar tunnel, also called the Banihal tunnel is a road tunnel at an elevation of 2,194 m in Jammu and Kashmir below the Banihal Pass in the Pir Panjal mountain range.

9. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said that the State government is committed to providing 10 lakh jobs in government departments and the target will be met in the next one and half years.

10. In Sikkim, a two-day Session of the Legislative Assembly began yesterday.

11. BJP Releases 3rd List With 35 Candidates for Telangana Polls. With this, the party has announced candidates for 88 constituencies as the first list had 52 candidates and the second list had a lone candidate A.P. Mithun Kumar Reddy.

12. A Supreme Court judge, Justice P S Narasimha has voiced unhappiness at being repeatedly addressed as “My Lord” and “Your Lordships” by lawyers during judicial proceedings. “Why don’t you use ‘Sir’ instead,” Justice Narasimha said.

Lawyers, during arguments, invariably address judges as “My Lord” or “Your Lordships”. Those opposed to the practice often call it a colonial-era relic and a sign of slavery.

Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, who stormed out of the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee meeting on Thursday during a hearing on the cash-for-query allegations against her, wrote to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging that she has been subjected to the proverbial “Vastraharan” by the panel chairman in the presence of all members of the committee.

1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) reported that over 97% of ₹2,000 banknotes in circulation as of May 19, 2023, have been returned by October 31, 2023. These notes remain legal tender.

2. The Government has launched nationwide Digital Life Certificate Campaign 2.0 to enhance the ease of living of Central Government pensioners. The campaign is being run from the 1st to the 30th of November this year.

1. *PROJECT KUSHA’ @ INDIA’S OWN VERSION OF ‘IRON DOME’? The ambitious indigenous project will be developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) at an estimated budget of Rs 21,700 crore. Like Israel’s Iron Dome system, it will provide the Indian Air Force to detect and destroy hostile targets from a large range.
