Go First files for insolvency proceedings, suspends flights; DGCA issues show cause notice. Wadia group-owned Go First on Tuesday said it has filed for insolvency resolution and can no longer continue to meet financial obligations, blaming US company Pratt & Whitney’s “faulty engines” for grounding of 50% of its fleet. The airline has filed an application for voluntary insolvency resolution proceedings before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), said CEO Kaushik Khona.
Earlier today, the airline announced it would suspend all flights for three days from May 3 to May 5.

DGCA has issued the notice, for no prior intimation over cancellation of flights which is non-compliance with conditions for approval of schedule.
6. The unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has allowed residents to verify their mobile numbers and email IDs seeded with their Aadhaar.
7. Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar announced his decision to retire from the post of party president in MumbaiMumbai. He was speaking at the launch of the new edition of his autobiography, Lok Maje Sangati. Sharad Pawar has been serving as the NCP’s president since its inception in 1999.
8. The online nominations for the Padma Awards 2024 have opened. The last date for nominations for Padma Awards is 15th September this year.
9. BJP hit out at Congress for drawing a parallel between the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Bajrang Dal and promising its ban in party’s Karnataka poll manifesto. Talking to media in New Delhi, party spokesperson Sambit Patra alleged that it is an attempt by Congress to save PFI.
10. Andhrapradesh Chief Minister YS JaganMohan Reddy to launch work on Bhogapuram international greenfield airport. The airport would be built with an expenditure of around 4,592 crore. The CM would also set the foundation stones for Vizag Tech Park Ltd (Adani Group) in Visakhapatnam.
11. TELANGANA: Providing relief to farmers who have suffered significant losses as a result of the unseasonal rains for the past week, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao on Tuesday announced that the state government will purchase damaged and soaked paddy stocks currently lying in market yards at MSP (minimum support price).
12. Bihar government on Tuesday decided to recruit 1.78 lakh teachers in government schools in a bid tostem the rapid decline in the educational system across the state.
13. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday chaired a meeting to review the state’s preparedness to deal with the challenges that are likely to emerge if Cyclone Mocha hits Odisha.
14. Government offices in Punjab will function from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm from May 2 till July 15. The government revised the work hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm to reduce power consumption in the state.
15. Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the state government will pay the fees for beneficiaries of the Ladli Laxmi Scheme to attend prestigious educational institutions, including medical colleges, IITs, IIMs, and law institutes. The scheme has over 44.85 lakh beneficiaries.

1. India recently slashed the windfall tax on domestically produced crude oil to ₹4,100 per tonne from ₹6,400 per tonne.
What is Windfall Tax?
It is a higher tax levied by the government on specific industries when they experience unexpected and above-average profits.
However, these revenues cannot be linked to anything the company actively pursued, such as its business strategy or expansion.
2. The toll collection through FASTag system has achieved a historic milestone, reaching an all-time high collection of over 193 crore rupees in a single day. Road Transport and Highways Ministry said, over one crore 16 lakh transactions were recorded in a single day on 29th April.
The number of toll plazas under FASTag programme has increased from 770 to one thousand 228.
3. The last date for submitting claims under the Vivad se Vishwas scheme is 30th June 2023. The scheme commenced on 17th April for relief to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises sector, MSMEs.

1. Indian Navy ships head to South China Sea to take part in the inaugural edition of ASEAN-India Maritime Exercise (AIME) on 2 May. These exercises are coming just days after a meeting between Indian and Chinese Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh and Li Shangfu at the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s (SCO) Defence Minster Meet held between 27-28 April.
2. Indian and French Air Forces are participating in joint aerial drills as part of a multinational air exercise at the French airbase of Mont-de-Marsan.
The ‘Exercise Orion’ includes four Rafale jets, two C-17 aircraft and two IL-78 mid-air refuellers deployed by India. This exercise marks the first overseas exercise for the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) Rafale jets.
