Earlier in the day, Mr. Pawar resigned as Leader of the Opposition after a meeting with NCP MLAs.

11. NCP chief Sharad Pawar has called for a party meeting on July 5 to discuss the developments and the future course of action after nine party leaders took oath as Maharashtra ministers.

12. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday announced that the Aasara pension that is given to aged persons and widows would be enhanced from Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000. The assurance, announced at the massive Telangana Garjana meeting in Khammam.

13. Nationalist Congress Party appointed Jitendra Awhad as Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly after incumbent LoP Ajit Pawar joined the Eknath Shinde government as deputy chief minister on Sunday.

14. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice will hold a meeting on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC)

How a Uniform Civil Code will impact religions, their personal laws?

The main aim of UCC would be to streamline present laws related to marriage, divorce, adoption, inheritance, succession, and guardianship.

If UCC is enforced, it would be able to fix the minimum legal age for marriage, abolish bigamy and resolve issues around interfaith marriages.

1. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on 2nd July 2023, Sunday conducted raids at multiple locations in Bihar, Gujarat, and Uttar Pradesh in connection with a radicalized module run by Pakistan-based suspects – Ghazwa-e-Hind.

2. Four persons were killed after fresh violence erupted in Manipur, police said, adding that one of the victims had been beheaded. While three of the victims belonged to the Meitei community and were allegedly shot dead by armed men in Bishnupur.

3. Supreme Court reopens, to take up petitions on Manipur violence. A Bench, led by CJI DY Chandrachud, will hear petitions on the Manipur violence, including a plea of an NGO seeking Army protection for the minority Kuki tribals and action against groups attacking them.

4. Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs’ Chairman Vivek Johri said CBIC officers have busted 304 syndicates involving 9,000 fake GSTINs (GST identification numbers) in a drive against fake input tax credit (ITC) claims. He stated that fake ITC claims worth ₹25,000 crore were also detected.

5. A mass cremation was held on Sunday in Buldhana for 24 of the 25 victims, who were killed after a bus they were travelling in caught fire after hitting a divider on the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway.

1. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) made a significant announcement, revoking the banking permit of Mahalaxmi Cooperative Bank Ltd in Dharwad, Karnataka. However, in a subsequent move, the RBI granted the institution a non-banking institution license, allowing it to continue its operations.

2. Tomato prices have soared to ₹160 per kg in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district. Incidentally, the Raisen district is the biggest producer of tomatoes in the state.

3. Elon Musk-led Tesla delivered record 466,140 cars worldwide in the second quarter of 2023, beating market estimates. The deliveries increased 83% year-over-year as the electric carmaker increased discounts and incentives over the past few months.

4. Bank of Baroda is planning to sell up to 49% stake in BOB Financial Solutions Limited, PTI reported citing a senior bank official. The bank currently holds 100% stake in its credit card business arm.

5. Muthoot Pappachan Group’s Muthoot Microfin has refiled draft papers with SEBI to raise ₹1,350 crore via an initial public offering (IPO). The IPO consists of a fresh issue of up to ₹950 crore.

1. Makers of ’72 Hoorain’ will hold screening of the film at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on July 4. “Screening so Kashmiri muslims and others express their views about the movie,” the makers stated. The trailer of the film was reportedly not given censor certificate by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

2. Indian Army has granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel-starrer ‘Gadar 2’, as per reports. “The makers held a special screening of the film and the response they received from the officials was extremely heartwarming,” a source was quoted as saying. ‘Gadar 2’ is reportedly set against the backdrop of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

3. A police complaint been filed against ‘Carry on Jatta 3’ makers by Punjab Shiv Sena (Taksali) in Jalandhar for allegedly hurting sentiments of Hindus. The complainants stated that there is a scene in the movie in which dirty water is being thrown in havan. They also stated a “Brahmin” who performed the havan was humiliated in the movie

4. Veteran Bollywood actor Harish Magon, who was seen in films like ‘Gol Maal’ (1979), ‘Namak Halaal’ and ‘Inkaar’, passed away aged 76 on Saturday.

6. A prototype of the Air-Launched Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (ALUAV) developed jointly by India and the United States is likely to be flight tested later this year.

7. Defence Research and Development Organisation has test fired K-15 Submarine Launched short range Nuclear capable Ballistic Missile from Dr. Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha. Also Known as “Sagrika”, it has a range more than 750 kilometers and it is currently in service with India’s SSBN Fleet.

8. Royal Australian Air Force P-8A Poseidon will be conducting joint maritime surveillance patrols this week with the Indian Navy to enhance maritime capabilities and build maritime domain awareness.

9. Ex-servicemen demand permission to carry liquor bottles on KSRTC buses, Karnataka. State president, AKMSS, said liquor is being supplied under the Army Act & CSD units are not set up in all districts. Hence, soldiers and ex-servicemen carry them from a distance of over 100 kms. Moreover, they can’t hire a private vehicle to carry 2-3 bottles. Hence requested in amendment to the Excise Act and KSRTC order.
