1. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the 37th Surajkund International Crafts Mela – 2024 at Surajkund in Faridabad district on Friday.

The Surajkund Mela 2024, one of India’s most eagerly awaited cultural events, kicks off yesterday, February 2nd at Surajkund Mela Ground, Faridabad, and will continue until 18th February.

2. PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of Talabira Thermal Power Project of Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited, under the Ministry of Coal,Government of India in Odisha. According to the Ministry, the project worth over Rs 27,000 crore.

3. PM Modi attends Bharat mobility global expo 2024 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The three day event is being held from 1st to 3rd of February, 2024.

4. Union Minister Smriti Zubin Irani informs benefits of life insurance and accidental cover upto two lakh rupees have been extended to every Anganwadi worker.

5. Jharkhand: First Cabinet meeting of the newly formed state Government held at Project Bhawan in Ranchi. The Champai Soren-led coalition government in Jharkhand will seek trust vote on 5 February.

6. 40 MLAs of ruling JMM-led alliance in Jharkhand accommodated in Hyderabad luxury resort. MLAs of the have been put up on Friday ahead of the trust vote to be faced by the newly-formed Champai Soren government. AICC Telangana in-charge Deepa Das Munshi and state transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar received the MLAs.

7. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her interim budget speech for 2024-25, indicated that the government would actively “promote” vaccination to combat cervical cancer.

In India, cervical cancer ranks as the second most common cancer among women, posing a significant health challenge. The primary cause of cervical cancer is the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

8. PM Modi to lay foundation stone of Shri Kalki Dham on 19th of February; thanked Shri Acharya Pramod Krishnam for inviting him to lay the foundation stone of Shri Kalki Dham.

9. Mumbai to get Central Park on the lines of New York on sprawling Racecourse land : A 300-acre ‘Mumbai Central Park’ on the lines of Central Park in New York and Hyde park in London will be created by connecting the 175-acre Costal Road garden and 120-acre land of the racecourse by a subway.

10. Final Uniform Civil Code draft for Uttarakhand : The five-member committee constituted for drafting the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand handed over its final report to the State’s Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday.

The committee has recommended strict punishment for triple talaq and nikahhalala practices, pertaining to Muslim personal laws,
The draft has also advised ban on polygamy and polyandry. The committee suggested keeping the tribal community out of the UCC ambit.

UCC committee also suggests legalising live-in relationships, equal rights in inheritance for women and men, minimum age of marriage for women at 21 years among others.

11. Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday said he has tested positive for COVID-19 and swine flu.

12. The Kerala government on Thursday said in the Assembly that the Central government has granted site and defence clearance for the Sabarimala Greenfield Airport project. The Kerala government had in December last year issued an order to proceed with the acquisition of 2,570 acres of land in Kottayam district for this ambitious project.

13. The Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), a renowned institution for Journalism and Mass Communication, has achieved the status of a deemed university. This significant development empowers the institute to confer degrees, marking a shift from its previous diploma-granting authority.

14. A Private Member legislation, namely The Constitution (Amendment) Bill, 2022 (amendment of article 153 and substitution of articles 155 and 156) was withdrawn from Rajya Sabha on Friday.

15. PM Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of various developmental initiatives worth 11,599 crore rupees on Sunday, informed Assam CM Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

16. The government said, more than 3.8 crore beneficiaries have been enrolled under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) till the 29th of January since the inception of the scheme in 2017-18.

1. Three Maoists, including a self-styled militia deputy commander, surrendered on Friday Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, The trio said they are surrendering due to disappointment with the hollow and inhuman Maoist ideology. They will be given relief as the per the state government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy.

2. The Allahabad High Court declined the petition of the Anjuman Intezamia Masajid Committee, which had sought an interim stay on the worship in the basement of Vyasji located in the Gyanvapi complex.

The Allahabad high court on Friday did not give any immediate relief to the Gyanvapi Masjid committee which had challenged a Varanasi district court order allowing Hindu prayers in a cellar of the mosque. The court will now hear the matter on 6 February.

3. Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita BNS 2023 introduces a paradigm shift in the treatment of first-time offenders, emphasizing rehabilitation and compassion in the pursuit of Justice.

4. Functionaries of the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and students of Pune University’s Lalit Kala Kendra on Friday scuffled over a play based on ‘Ramleela’ that the former claimed had objectionable dialogues and scenes.

The play, staged by the Lalit Kala Kendra, officially called the Centre for Performing Arts, was based on backstage banter of actors who perform various roles in Ramleela. According to Shiva Barole, the Pune University unit chief of the ABVP, Sita was shown smoking and also using abusive language for Laxman.

5. The Enforcement Directorate has attached dozens of excavators, allegedly used for illegal sand mining in Tamil Nadu, and frozen the company bank accounts of sand lifting contractors, as part of its months-long investigation in the State.

1. The Interim Budget 2024, unveiled by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, sheds light on India’s foreign aid allocation, with Bhutan emerging as a significant recipient.

Finance Minister revealed Bhutan as the primary beneficiary of Indian aid, receiving ₹2,398.97 crore, followed by Maldives with ₹770.90 crore.

2. The Indian government provided ₹6,541.79 crore to foreign governments with ₹4,927.43 crore as a grant and ₹1,614.36 crore as a loan, as per the revised estimates for 2023-24. It crossed the budget estimates of ₹5,848.58 crore for 2023-24. For 2024–2025, the projected grants and loans total ₹5,667.56 crore.

3. The PM GatiShakti Summit, a collaboration between the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), unfolded in New Delhi, marking a significant milestone in India’s infrastructure development strategy.

4. AU Small Finance Bank announced the appointment of Harun Rashid Khan, former deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as its Non-Executive Chairman. The appointment, effective 30 January 2024.

The “AU” word in “AU Small Finance Bank” has no full form as such. However, AU gets its name from Aurum, which means gold in Latin. Also, the chemical symbol “AU” is considered auspicious in many parts of the country.

1. Poonam Pandey , a well-known figure in films, shows, and daring photoshoots, tragically passed away at the young age of 32 due to cervical cancer. Poonam Pandey (11 March 1991 – 1 February 2024) was an Indian model and an erotic actress. She debuted in Bollywood with the film Nasha in 2013.

2. Tamil actor Vijay on February 2 announced his entry into politics ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The actor named his party Tamilaga Vetri Kazham and said that his party would not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections but he will contest the 2026 Assembly polls.

3. ‘Hanu Man’ Movie breaks the record : This is the first Indian film in 2024 to have made more than Rs 200 crore in India. Following the film’s success, the makers have planned for the sequel, ‘Jai Hanuman’. The pre-production work for the second part of the film is underway. Apart from that, director Prasanth Varma is also launching the film in his cinematic universe titled ‘Adhira’. It is likely that after ‘Jai Hanuman’, the work for ‘Adhira’ will begin.

1. Indian Navy units are being deployed in strategic waters in Djibouti, Gulf of Aden, East Coast of Somalia as well as in the North and Central Arabian Sea for protection of merchant vessels in view of the regional maritime security situation.

2. The Indian Air Force will display its full spectrum of combat and fire capabilities during EXERCISE VAYU SHAKTI-2024 at the Pokhran range close to the India-Pakistan border in Rajasthan on February 17. Fighter jet Rafale, Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand and Apache attack helicopters will be among the assets taking part in the exercise for the first time.

3. The US approved selling 31 MQ-9B armed drones to India for $4 billion to boost its maritime security. This deal will give India 16 times more armed drones than its current fleet and enhance its surveillance capabilities.

4. India takes giant leap towards self-reliance by developing indigenous SAMHO (or Semi-Active Mission Homing) missile to ‘annihilate’ enemy armour.

India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has announced a critical milestone, the 120 mm Cannon Launched Missile Development Program (CLMDP) also called as SAMHO which has successfully completed all trials and now is ready for production.

5. In a bid to enhance the security in the maritime zones, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is expanding its fleet and is set to acquire new ships and aircraft. The ICG deploys 50-60 ships and 10-12 aircraft daily.

As many as 21 ships are under construction at three shipyards including two Pollution Control Vessels which will be frontline ships for combating marine pollution in its Area of Responsibility.

6. The Indian Navy has declared 2024 as the ‘Year of Naval Civilians.’ This groundbreaking initiative targets comprehensive Civilian HR Management, with a sharp focus on enhancing administrative efficiency, embracing digital transformation, implementing targeted training programs, and fostering employee welfare activities.

7. North Maharashtra and Gujarat- UMANG subarea of IndianArmy organised ‘ SHAURYA SANDHYA ‘ program at Mankapur Divisional Sports Complex in Nagpur. Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj Pandey and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis were present during the inauguration ceremony.

8. Lieutenant General Kavita Sahai on Thursday became the first woman to be appointed as the Commandant of Army Medical Corps Centre and College in Lucknow.

9. The Interim budget has set aside ₹1.72 lakh crore for capital expenditure on the military, up 6.2% from the ₹1.62 lakh crore allocation made last year.

(a) The government of India, on Thursday, hiked its defence budget by 4.5% to ₹6.21 lakh crore for FY25 from last year’s allocation of ₹5.94 lakh crore.

(b) The total revenue expenditure has been set at ₹4,39,300 crore, of which ₹1,41,205 crore would be put aside for defence pensions, ₹2,82,772 crore for defence services, and the remainder of ₹15,322 crore for the Ministry of Defence (Civil).

(c) The revenue expenditure for the Indian Army has been pegged at ₹1,92,680 crore for FY25, while the Navy and the Indian Air Force were allocated ₹32,778 crore and ₹46,223 crore, respectively.

(d) The defence services capital outlay for aircraft and aero engines is ₹40,777 crore, while a total of ₹62,343 crore was allocated for ‘other equipment’.

(e) An outlay of ₹23,800 crore has also been made for the naval fleet and ₹6,830 crore for naval dockyard projects.
