1. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in several states of India for 1 July. The Red Alert has also been issued in Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Gujarat, Assam, Meghalaya till 4 July.

2. Kerala is bracing for significant rainfall over the next five days due to a low pressure area stretching from the Kerala coast to Maharashtra, coupled with a cyclone off North Gujarat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings predicting widespread rain across the state.

3. The three New Criminal Laws – Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023, come into force from yesterday.

4. Electricity consumers in the Telangana State will not be able to pay their bills through third party apps such as PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, Amazon Pay and others from Monday as banks have stopped accepting electricity bills of the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) through such apps. Payment via credit cards of some banks will also be affected.

5. The BJP announced the names of five candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council biennial elections on Monday. The list includes former MLA Pankaja Munde who unsuccessfully contested the recent Lok Sabha elections from Beed. This will be the first council election in Maharashtra since the NCP and Shiv Sena underwent vertical splits.

Elections to the Upper House of the state legislature will be held mere months before the assembly polls due in October as 11 MLCs retire on July 27. There are 14 vacancies in the 288-member house with the the electoral college now standing at 274.

6. After a heavy downpour in the Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh, a large portion of the bridge built over the Kurung river on Monday got washed away due to heavy floods. The Kurung Bridge connects the Kurung Kumey district headquarters with the nearest town, Sangram.

7. PM Modi greeted all the doctors on the occasion of Doctor’s Day yesterday.

8. PM Modi has also lauded the successful completion of nine years of the Digital India initiative.

9. Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Dr Jitendra Singh launched a special campaign for effective redressal of family pensioners grievances in New Delhi. The Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare as part of its 100 Days Action Plan has undertaken a month-long special campaign for effective redressal of Family Pensioners’ Grievances from today till the 31st of July.

10. The National Testing Agency – NTA yesterday declared the revised result of one thousand 563 candidates after the NEET(UG) Re-Test. The NTA has also revised the rank of all Candidates after the new results.

1. Telangana Police registered first FIR under new criminal code Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhitha (BNS). An FIR under 281 BNS, 80(a), 177 MV Act against two persons has been registered at Charminar Police Station under Hyderabad Police Commissionerate. Section 281 of The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) talks about Rash driving or riding on a public way.

2. The director of a prominent coaching centre in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag and a teacher at the institute are on CBI’s radar as the focus of the agency’s probe into the NEET-UG paper leak shifts from the three arrested suspects to their collaborators and conduits spread across multiple locations.

3. The Delhi High Court on July 1 dismissed BRS leader K. Kavitha’s bail pleas in two cases of corruption and money laundering linked to the alleged excise policy scam.

4. The Delhi High Court on July 1 directed Trinamool Congress leader (TMC) and Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale to pay Rs 50 lakh in damages in a defamation case filed by former diplomat Lakshmi Puri.

5. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi raised the issues of alleged irregularities in NEET exam, Agniveer scheme, unrest in Manipur, demonetisation, rising inflation and farmer issues among others. During his speech, Rahul Gandhi made a remark on a particular community which was objected to by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

The Delhi court sentenced social activist Medha Patkar to five months of imprisonment in a more than two-decade-old criminal defamation case lodged by the present Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi Vinai Kumar Saxena. Metropolitan Magistrate Raghav Sharma of Saket Court on 25th of May convicted Ms. Patkar for the offence of criminal defamation under Section 500 of the Indian Penal Code.

7. A court in Pune on Monday extended till July 3 the police custody of 10 persons arrested in connection with the Pune bar drug video case.

8. Jailed Kashmiri leader and newly elected MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, is likely to take oath on July 5 after the NIA on Monday gave its consent before a special court in Delhi. Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh will pass an order on the matter on Tuesday.

9. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday moved the Delhi High Court challenging his arrest by the CBI and his subsequent custody in a corruption case linked to the Delhi excise policy ‘scam’. Kejriwal’s petition is listed for hearing on Tuesday before Justice Neena Bansal Krishna.

1. The Reserve Bank of India has notified the interest rate of RBI Floating Rate Savings Bond (FRSB) 2020 (Taxable) from July 1 to December 31 2024. As the name suggests, the interest rate of RBI Floating Rate Savings Bonds 2020 (Taxable) is not fixed.

2. RBI imposes monetary penalty on 4 co-operative banks for violating rules. These banks are The Gujarat Rajya Karmachari Co-operative Bank, The Rohika Central Co-operative Bank, The National Co-operative Bank, and The Bank Employees’ Co-operative Bank, the RBI said in a release.

3. Oil marketing companies have reduced the prices of commercial LPG gas cylinders by 30 rupees. The price change for a 19 kilogram commercial LPG cylinder will come into effect from 01 Jul.

The retail sale price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi will be one thousand 646 rupees.

5. India and Russia are close to finalizing a “landmark” joint venture (JV) pact on the S-400 Triumf air defence (AD) system. The S-400 Triumf is a highly advanced surface-to-air missile system that provides a significant boost to India’s air defence capabilities. India signed a deal with Russia in October 2018.

6. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said that the government provides Rs 1 crore compensation to the families of Agniveer martyrs.

According to the Agniveer scheme document, the compensation amount in case of death on duty is Rs 92 lakh and in case of death while not on duty is Rs 48 lakh.

Under the Agneepath scheme, Agniveers are recruited in the Indian Army for four years of service including the training period in the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy. After four years of service, 25 per cent of Agniveers are permanently recruited into the army.
