1. The India Meteorological Department, IMD has said that the Severe Cyclonic Storm- Remal is very likely to continue to move nearly northwards and cross Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara, close to southwest of Mongla of Bangladesh.

2. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting to review response and preparedness for Cyclone Remal.

6. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and ruling DMK President M K Stalin on Sunday said his party would dedicate the I.N.D.I.A. bloc’s victory in the Lok Sabha polls to late party patriarch M Karunanidhi and celebrate his centenary at the national level.

7. Tamil Nadu government strongly objected to the Centre’s inclusion of Kerala’s proposal for an environmental impact assessment (EIA) study on constructing a new Mullaperiyar Dam at the Expert Appraisal Committee meeting on May 28 and demanded that the subject be dropped from the agenda.

8. The Telangana government has issued a one-year ban on the manufacture, storage, distribution, transportation and sale of gutka and pan masala containing tobacco and nicotine throughout the State, effective immediately.

9. Two wagons of a goods train derailed at Vishnupuram railway station in Nalgonda district, affecting train services on Sunday. As a result, two passenger trains were diverted, and another passenger train was rescheduled.

1. The Kerala High Court has directed the state government to ensure no trees on roadsides are felled merely because they obstruct commercial activities. The High Court said that trees can be cut and removed only if they are in damaged condition and as a result pose a danger to public safety. A decision regarding that should be taken by a committee constituted in accordance with a 2010 government order regulating the felling and disposal of trees growing on government lands.

2. The Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra and the Ayodhya administration have decided to impose a complete ban on mobile phones in the Ram Janmabhoomi temple premises for the security and devotees’ facilities, said temple trustee Anil Mishra.

3. The Government issues directions to Telecom Service Providers for blocking incoming international spoofed calls.

4. The government advised people not to get ‘enticed’ and ‘entrapped’ in such fraudulent or exploitative job offers and appealed them to stay alert on employment scams.

5. Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has said that she has been getting death and rape threats over the assault case she is pursuing against Bibhav Kumar, the personal assistant (PA) of Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

In her post on X, Maliwal further accused YouTuber Dhruv Rathee of making a one-sided video on the case and refusing to listen to her side of the story.

1. The death toll in the Rajkot fire incident has reached 27. Gujarat State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi, who visited the site of the incident, told reporters that strict action would be taken against whoever was responsible for the tragedy.

Prime Minister has announced assistance for the families of the deceased who lost their lives in tragic fire incidents in Gujarat and Delhi.

2. President Droupadi Murmu has said that the news of death of many children due to a fire in a hospital in Vivek Vihar, Delhi is heart-wrenching. In a social media post, She said, may God give strength to the bereaved parents and relatives to bear this shock. The President prayed for speedy recovery of other children injured in this incident.

3. The private neonatal hospital where seven newborns died and five were injured in a blaze was operating despite the expiry of its license. It also did not have qualified doctors and had no clearance from the fire department, police said on Sunday.

Public sector Punjab National Bank (PNB) has warned customers that if there has been no transaction in their accounts for three years and there is no balance in them, then those accounts will be closed after a month. According to the bank, this step will be taken to protect such accounts from misuse. The Bank has decided to close such accounts to contain the underlying risk. According to the bank, the calculation of three years will be done till April 30.

1. The Cannes Film Festival, held from 14 May to 25 May this year, saw several Indian artists win major prizes and receive critical acclaim for their works.

2. India’s ‘All We Imagine As Light’ wins Grand Prix: The film, led by Kani Kusruti and Divya Prabha, explores the connections between two Mayalali nurses.

3. Actor Anasuya Sengupta, who became the first Indian to win Best Actress at Cannes (Un Certain Regard) for her role in the Bulgarian director Konstantin Bojanov’s The Shameless.

4. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that India is proud of Payal Kapadia for her historic feat of winning the Grand Prix at the 77th Cannes Film Festival for her work ‘All We Imagine as Light’. The Prime Minister in a social media post said that an alumnus of FTII, her remarkable talent continues to shine on the global stage, giving a glimpse of the rich creativity in India.

1. The Centre on Sunday extended the tenure of Army chief Manoj Pande for a period of one month. The Appointments Committee of Cabinet on May 26 approved the extension in service of Chief of the Army Staff General Manoj C Pande for a period of one month, beyond his normal age of superannuation (May 31), i.e. up to June 30, under Rule 16 A (4) of the Army Rules 1954,” the defence ministry said in a statement.

General Pande has been the 29th army chief for over two years. Service chiefs have a three-year term or serve until they turn 62, whichever is earlier. Before assuming the charge of vice chief, Pande was heading the Kolkata-based Eastern Command, which is responsible for guarding India’s borders with China in the eastern sector.

2. Vice-Admiral Gurcharan Singh took charge as Commandant of the National Defence Academy (NDA) from Vice-Admiral Ajay Kochhar on Saturday. The NDA alumnus was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 1 July 1990.

3. India continues to expand its maritime engagement with Southeast Asia as part of the larger cooperation in the Indo-Pacific in line with Act East and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) centrality. In the latest such engagement, three Indian Navy ships — destroyer Delhi, fleet tanker Shakti and anti-submarine corvette Kiltan — concluded an operational deployment to South China Sea under the Navy’s Eastern Fleet that saw port calls beginning with Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines and Brunei.

4. Recently Sixteen-year-old Kaamya Karthikeyan successfully summited Mt. Everest, becoming the youngest Indian mountaineer to scale the world’s highest peak from the Nepal side, the Indian Navy said. The daughter of a naval officer, Kaamya is a class 12 student at Navy Children School, Mumbai.

5. Three improvised explosives devices (IEDs) were defused by the army in Manipur’s Imphal East district, The IEDs were found concealed on the road connecting Nongdam and Itham villages, 46 km apart. The section of the road where the IEDs were found is closer to Maphou dam and Nongdam village.

6. After 80 years a wreck of the US navy submarine, which was renowned for its impact on World War II naval warfare, has been found in the South China Sea.

The USS Harder which vanished on August 24, 1944, with 79 sailors onboard has been located off Luzon island in the Philippines with assistance from Tim Taylor, CEO of Tiburon Subsea and the Lost 52 Project, as reported by the Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC).
