1. President Smt. Droupadi Murmu gives assent to five important bills passed by the Parliament, including regulation of Online Gaming Bill and Income Tax Act 2025.

4. A total of 68 nominations filed by 46 candidates have been received for the upcoming Vice-Presidential Election. Out of these 28 nomination papers filed by 19 candidates were rejected.

5. Domestic fertilizers production has witnessed tremendous growth in the past 10 years with record Urea production. According to the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, over 306 lakh metric tonnes urea production was recorded in the year 2024-25, with a growth of 35 per cent in comparison to production achieved in the year 2013-14. Over 227 lakh metric tonnes of Urea production was recorded in the year 2013-14. The Ministry highlighted that despite the geo-political situation which affected the supplies of fertilizers in the country, the government has taken steps to provide relief to the farmers by providing subsidies on fertilizers.

6. Minister of State (MoS) for Home, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who is on a visit to the state, inaugurated six infrastructure projects of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in Arunachal Pradesh.

10. Hyderabad residents can now apply for water feasibility certificate online. People building new houses under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) limits will not have to go around the circle offices of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to seek a water feasibility certificate, which is mandatory to secure GHMC’s building permission.

11. Telangana government promotes 880 teachers as head masters. According to the director of school education, vacancies in 2,324 posts of school assistants in various subjects, and 640 posts of primary school head masters in the government and local body schools, will be filled by way of promotion by 26 August 2025.

12. Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, said that the Parliament has passed five key bills in the just-concluded Monsoon Session, which overhauled colonial-era maritime laws and will boost the Blue Economy.

*The new bills are the Bills of Lading 2025, the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill 2025, the Coastal Shipping Bill 2025, the Merchant Shipping Bill 2025, and the Indian Ports Bill 2025.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, East Rajasthan, Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Odisha, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh. *The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) in June unanimously agreed to sign a deed of exchange for land with the Raia comunidade, which is required for an access road to the proposed kabrastan site at Sonsoddo.

4. Government warns online money gaming causes annual losses of ₹20,000 crore for 45 crore people, urging stronger citizen protection measures.

6. Home Minister Amit Shah has accused retired Supreme Court judge B Sudershan Reddy – the Congress-led INDIA bloc’s nominee for the Vice President election – of ‘supporting Naxalism’.

*Shah referred to Justice Reddy’s landmark 2011 Salwa Judum judgement, in which he ruled state-sponsored militia – i.e., arming young men from tribal communities and calling them ‘special police officers’ – was “illegal” and “unconstitutional”.

7. The Madras High Court has rejected a plea by the Greater Chennai Corporation’s sanitation worker challenging the Corporation’s resolution to outsource the sanitation work in two of its zones to private companies.

1. The Income Tax Act, 2025, has been published in the Official Gazette after it received the President’s assent. According to the Gazette, the Act consolidates and revises the law relating to income tax. The new law will come into force from 1st of April 2026.

2. GST panel considers exempting health and life insurance premiums. Reforms aim to simplify taxes, reduce compliance, and provide relief to citizens and MSMEs.

3. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has invited bids to sell three bungalows in Lonavala, a hill station near Mumbai, at a base price of ₹6.55 crore. Located near the scenic Lonavala Lake, the ground-plus-one structures were earlier used by the RBI as holiday homes for its staff.

4. JSW Group has formed a joint venture with US-based Tomcar to indigenize, manufacture, assemble and provide full life cycle support for the TX range of all-terrain vehicles at its Chandigarh facility that will be offered to the armed forces.

1. Pratik Gandhi and Sunny Hinduja’s newly released Netflix series Saare Jahan Se Accha premiered over the Independence Day weekend and has garnered an overwhelming response from viewers. The thriller made it to Netflix’s Top 10 list during its debut week and even secured a spot in the Top 5. The show has also emerged as one of the most successful Hindi OTT debuts on the platform.

2. The iconic ‘Sholay’ starring Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Hema Malini, Sanjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan among others is considered the greatest ever Indian movie. The film recently completed 50 years on August 15 and is still remembered over the years.

The film was directed by Ramesh Sippy and written by the legendary duo of Salim-Javed (Salim Khan, Javed Akhtar).

3. The highly anticipated Kannada multi-starrer 45 is now officially slated for a grand theatrical release in multiples langauges on December 25, coinciding with the Christmas holiday. Initially scheduled to hit screens on August 15, the film’s release has been postponed due to extensive post-production and visual effects work.

1. India and Bangladesh will hold the 56th Director General (DG) level border talks in Dhaka from August 25 to 28. The Border Security Force (BSF) and its Bangladesh counterpart, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), hold the DG level Border Co-ordination Conference twice in a year, with either side alternatively travelling to New Delhi and Dhaka.

2. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Group Captain Shukla shared his experiences in space with the President. The President extended her best wishes to the entire team for future endeavours, especially for the Gaganyaan Mission.

3. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has said that India is building a robust defence ecosystem by promoting innovation and technology development and creating a suitable growth environment for domestic companies. He said, the country is marching towards the direction of building Fifth Generation fighter aircraft and manufacturing the aircraft’s engine. He said, engine manufacturing is going to start in the country with the French company Safran.

4. The DRDO and the Indian Air Force are co-developing an advanced ground-based jammer modeled on Russia’s Krashuka system that will be mounted on a mobile platform for rapid deployment along the LOC and LAC. The indigenous S-band jammer will target aircraft from long ranges of over 300 kilometers while also disrupting global navigation satellite systems. The jammer will create a powerful denial zone that will deceive radars, block communications, and force aircraft to retreat.

5. The DRDO has developed Nirvana software which is India’s first indigenous radar cross-section prediction software that will enable accurate simulation of aircraft, drones, missiles and warships radar signatures, helping optimize stealth shaping materials and radar absorbent materials.
