Astronaut Sunita Williams and her colleague Butch Willmore have been on International Space
Station Mission since the 5th of June 2024 which was to last 8 days but due to technical
problems it has been extended to February 2025 and now on Tuesday it has been announced
that there will be further delay till late March end which adds up to 10 months in the space.

Steve Stich, head of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program writes, “Fabrication, assembly, testing,
and final integration of a new spacecraft is a painstaking endeavor that requires great attention
to detail.”

Sunita Williams and Butch Willmore went to the ISS on Boeing’s Starliner. Boeing’s Starliner is
an aircraft developed by Boeing under NASA’s Commercial Crew Program (CCP) and due to
technical problems with Boeing like leaks and weak thrusters, it was sent back to Earth.

Additionally, NASA along with SpaceX began building a new SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule and
it is taking more time than expected hence, their return to Earth is being delayed.

Once the new SpaceX Crew Dragon Capsule is ready, it will be sent to ISS with astronauts
Anne McClain, Nichole Ayers, Kirill Peskov, and Takuya Onishi to replace Sunita Williams and
Butch Willmore.
