In a new twist to the murder case of Indore business executive Raja Raghuvanshi, two more individuals suspected of helping the prime accused, Sonam Raghuvanshi, conceal evidence of the crime have been arrested by police. The two, a property dealer from the locality and a guard, were detained in Indore for allegedly assisting in destroying crucial evidence against Sonam and others.
Suspects Were Assumed to Have Assisted Disposal of Jewelry, Laptop, and Gun
Based on Meghalaya Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), Sonam approached property dealer Silome James and building guard Balla Ahirwar soon after the crime. According to investigators, a box with Raja’s jewelry, a laptop, and a country-made firearm belonging to co-accused Raj Kushwaha was entrusted to James and Ahirwar in Indore.
SIT claims that James first concealed the box in a flat he had rented, then sought to burn the contents in an open plot adjacent to it. Beforehand, however, fragments of the box were found, although the main items—laptop, jewelry, and cash—either went missing or were wholly incinerated.
Arrests Made During Escape Attempts
Police apprehended James at the Bhonrasa toll booth when he allegedly attempted to escape the city. Acting on intelligence they had gathered through interrogation, police then tracked down and arrested Ahirwar, who had reportedly gone back to his home village in Ashok Nagar district following the crime.
Both men are currently in custody and are being taken to Shillong under transit remand to be questioned again by Meghalaya Police. The authorities believe their involvement was instrumental in the tampering with and destruction of evidence that might have helped bolster the case against the prime accused.
Murder Plot and Ongoing Investigation
Raja Raghuvanshi was reportedly killed by hired guns during a business trip to Meghalaya in late May. He is said to have been conspired against and killed by his wife, Sonam, and her paramour, Raj Kushwaha, and three assailants who were hired. Sonam was picked up early this month and is still in police custody.
With the recent arrests, the count of individuals associated with the case has now gone up to seven. The police are still finding out more about the planning of the murder and how evidence was methodically suppressed with the help of people in Indore.
