Telangana Legislative Assembly House’s proceedings began at 10 am with Speaker G Prasad
Kumar addressing the House.
Chief Minister of Telangana A Revanth Reddy, who is from Indian National Congress Party
moved the motion that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should be awarded with Bharat
Ratna for his outstanding works like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee
Act, the Right to Information Act, and the Land Acquisition Act, etc.
Once the Resolution was passed, the entire house observed two minutes of silence to pay
respect to late Manmohan Singh Ji. While, it has been observed that the leader of Opposition K
Chandrashekar Rao did not attend the house proceedings.
Revanth Reddy also brought up the contributions of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in
the formation of Telangana State in June, 2014. He also announced a statue of Manmohan
Singh would be created in its capital Hyderabad.
Comments Of KT Rama Rao
BRS Working President KT Rama Rao spoke highly of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh
and said, “the silent architect of modern India.” Then, he also urged the Telangana State
Legislative Assembly to pass a different resolution in the name of former Prime Minister P V
Narasimha Rao to request the center to build a memorial to honor his contributions for bringing
India out of the 1991 financial crisis.
Unanimous Resolution Passed By Telangana Assembly
Unanimous resolution has been passed by the Telangana Legislative Assembly requesting
Centre to confer Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with the Bharat Ratna for his
exemplary contributions in the field of finance and economy, energy security of India, growth of
nation in terms of modernisation, and for bringing more transparency in politics and governance
by RTI Act, etc.
Who Can Be Awarded Bharat Ratna?
Bharat Ratna is India’s highest honor awarded to Indian civilians who have made exceptionals
contributions in any field to the country. Earlier the fields were restricted to arts, literature,
science, and public services but after the 2011 amendment of rules, it included all fields existing
and possible in the upcoming future.
Usually, the process for choosing Bharat Ratna involves the Prime Minister recommending
names of recipients to the President. Hence, now the decision falls on the Central Government
if they will consider awarding Bharat Ratna to Manmohan Singh or not.
