Operation Sindoor Now Part of NCERT Modules, declares CBSE

Sindoor

It is a welcome step by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) that Operation Sindoor has been incorporated into school studies through two special add-on modules. Issued to students of Classes III to XII, these modules are not a part of the normal textbooks but will be additional study material to make young minds aware of the operation, its context, and its symbolic significance for the country.

Modules for Varying Age Groups

To make sure that children belonging to various age groups are able to understand the spirit of the operation, NCERT has prepared two distinct versions.
• For Classes 3 to 8, the module is named “Operation Sindoor – A Saga of Valor”. It is presented with simpler vocabulary, emphasizing courage and solidarity.
• The module for Classes 9–12 is entitled “Operation Sindoor – A Mission of Honor and Bravery”. This version has more information on the chain of events, strategic elements, and India’s defense readiness.

Every module spans 8–10 pages and is designed to promote class discussion as opposed to mechanical memorizing.

Background of the Operation

The operation was decided upon after the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 people dead. Investigations have pointed towards groups based outside of Pakistan, acting supposedly under the helm of Pakistan’s military and political leadership.

India reacted by carrying out Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, against nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK). The Indian Army conducted three precision strikes against seven camps, and the Indian Air Force conducted two high-profile targets in Muridke and Bahawalpur. The whole operation took only 22 minutes, depicting India’s advanced planning and precision.

Symbolism and Public Response

The title Sindoor was selected with profound cultural significance. Sindoor, which is the traditional wear for a married woman, was a symbol of respect for the widows of the victims of the terror. With this symbolism, the operation had an emotional as much as a military message.

The modules also cover the response of the public nationwide. Black armband protests by Muslim communities, candlelight processions, closure of shops in Kashmir, and solidarity meetings in border towns all reflected an overall call for justice and peace.

Educational Purpose

Through Operation Sindoor in the classroom, NCERT aims to merge recent history with civic studies. The students will not only study the military details of the strikes but also the values of solidarity, compassion, and grit. The modules make it clear that although military might is important, the underlying objective is peace and national security.

The integration of Operation Sindoor in NCERT’s special modules is a step towards contextual education, where learning in the classroom is linked to current national events. It gives young minds a chance to introspect on courage, sacrifice, and the nation’s will to safeguard its people—values that transcend the battlefield.
