In Gist:
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) with Chempolis India to set up a bamboo-based biorefinery.
- National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) made the partnership deal with Chempolis India because along with being a Fortum group associate company, it is also leading in the Finnish bio-refining technology.
- This partnership is special because NTPC Ltd. is a Central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Power and it is the largest power-generating utility in India.
- Furthermore, it became a Maharatna company in May 2010.
- The mega purpose that brought them together was the idea to explore the feasibility of setting up a bamboo-based bio-refinery in Bongaigaon (Assam) and its possible economical untapped possibilities.
- In the bio-refinery project, bamboo will be used for the production of 2G ethanol, bio-coal for thermal power plants, and other value-added products.
- To sum up, this project will support NTPCтАЩs decarbonization efforts, by building a sustainable model for the promotion of the use of locally available resources.
- And in the meantime, this project will create many job opportunities thus, contributing to the overall growth of the place.
