Court’s Sentence On RG Kar Rape And Murder Case
Finally, the much-awaited justice is delivered by the Supreme Court on RG Kar Rape and
murder case. The prime suspect Sanjay Roy has been sentenced to lifetime imprisonment.
Even though the earlier court was inclined towards death sentence because rape and murder
are not just a crime against an individual but also society.
But then, Sanjay and his lawyer put forward the view of chance for reformation, and the
Supreme Court instead of sentencing Sanjay Roy to capital punishment, gave him lifetime
imprisonment.
Sanjay Roy’s Statements On Being Innocent
Prime Suspect Of RG Kar Rape And Murder, Sanjay Roy pleaded during the court’s session
that he is innocent in the case, and said, “I have not done anything, neither rape nor murder. I
am being falsely implicated. You have seen everything. I am innocent. I already told you that I
was tortured. They made me sign whatever they wanted.”
He even said in the court that if he had not committed such a heinous crime and if he would
have then his rudraksha would have broken but it didn’t, so he is innocent.
Even after his repeated claims of him being innocent in the case, evidence proves otherwise i.e.
his DNA, toxicology reports, and even the CCTV footage. Hence, it is only natural and just how
the court has conducted the proceedings.
Roy’s Lawyer Argument
It is Sanjay Roy’s lawyer’s argument that swayed the court’s decision from the death sentence
to lifetime imprisonment.
He said that even if it is the rarest of rare cases, there should be scope for reformation. The
court has to show why the convict is not worth reformation or rehabilitation. The public
prosecutor has to present evidence and give reasons why the person is not worth reformation
and should be eliminated from society,”
CBI’s Plea To The Court
Even CBI put forward their request to the court and asked for maximum severe punishment that
can be awarded to the culprit. As per them, letting culprits away with lesser punishment will
send a wrong message to society.
Victim’s Mother Statement
As the verdict of life sentence came, the victim’s mother informed the media that until and
unless every single person involved in the case is not punished she along with her family will
keep fighting for justice for her daughter. She was a bit relieved after the court’s judgment but
still demanded capital punishment for the culprits.
Future
The case is taken over by the CBI and the investigation is ongoing but it is a relief to the victim’s
family and the whole nation that the prime culprit is put behind bars after thorough investigation.
