Delhi’s Environment Minister has launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, blaming his administration for the severe air pollution crisis that has plagued the national capital for the past decade. The minister accused Kejriwal of corruption and mismanagement, stating that the AAP government failed to implement effective policies to combat pollution, leaving Delhiites to suffer hazardous air quality year after year.
Failure to Implement Pollution Control Measures
The minister stated that Kejriwal’s administration paid no attention to major environmental issues despite repeated alerts from experts. He claimed that money allocated for pollution control was wasted and that AAP’s highly publicized initiatives like the Odd-Even formula and anti-pollution drives were publicity stunts with little effect. The minister added that essential projects such as smog towers and air purifiers were delayed or implemented inefficiently because of systemic corruption.
Stubble Burning Issue and AAP’s Inaction
One of the major causes of Delhi’s air pollution is stubble burning in neighboring states, including Punjab. The minister accused Kejriwal of failing to control stubble burning despite the AAP being in power in Punjab. He stated that instead of taking concrete steps to assist farmers with alternative solutions, Kejriwal’s government used the issue as an excuse, blaming others while neglecting their responsibility.
Public Health Emergency Because of Pollution
The chronic pollution emergency has caused serious health issues for Delhi citizens, including an increase in respiratory ailments, lung infections, and lower life expectancy. The minister asserted that Kejriwal’s corruption and inactivity directly led to the health emergency, since the government did not act proactively in measures such as enhancing public transport, enhancing green cover, or imposing stringent industrial regulations.
Demands for Accountability
The Delhi minister requested urgent action and called for a probe into suspected corruption in anti-pollution schemes. He demanded that Kejriwal be held accountable for the decline in air quality and blamed AAP for giving undue importance to political benefits over welfare. He further demanded that there be a well-planned and long-term approach to pollution control with transparency and efficiency.
While Delhi keeps struggling with poisonous air, the AAP-opposition party political blame game becomes fiercer. Whether Kejriwal’s administration will act on these charges is yet to be seen. Yet, as pollution levels reach crisis proportions every year, Delhiites are left insisting on actual solutions, not political sound bites.
