Kargil the Unmentionables

kargil war 1

The Truth (Saachi-Baat) – This no one will mention, the media will not cover.

  • General VP Malik was the Chief of Army Staff when the Kargil War took place in 1999. He regrets that Indian Army was not allowed to capture Pakistan Territory. That would have given strategic depth to protect the main arterial road Srinagar to Leh.
  • The Indian Army still regrets that its advance to capture all of Kashmir post partition in 1947 was halted by the political bosses and the matter referred to the UN. History repeated in Kargil.
  • How did the so-called Razakars come to occupy our posts? Because the Indian Army would vacate the posts during harsh winters. So why we vacate the posts is an unmentionable topic.
  • Remember Golan Heights of Syria, the Israelis occupied it to secure their territory. But India refrains from such action.
  • At Kargil the Army was ordered not to cross Line of Control and cross over into Pakistan. Thus the only choice was a frontal attack. This is sheer suicide. No one will mention that a political decision or political weak spine resulted in frontal attack and consequential more casualties.
  • During the Galwan skirmish with China, troops had been ordered not to carry conventional weapons (Political Dictat). The unfortunate situation as it unfolded and resultant casualties is now in history books.
  • While we all show solidarity with the Nation and salute the bravehearts who willingly sacrifice their lives for the honour of the country, we must stop and think of the political interference and its consequences. Look beyond the smoke screen of celebrating the victory and remembering the fallen. Ask yourself, why did it happen and could it have been resolved in another way – giving a free hand to the Defence Forces? Countrymen, do something!
