“Your limitations – its only your imagination.”

Who sets our boundaries? Who stops us when we dream of something too big or our imagination takes us too far? There is this voice that tells, ‘You can’t do this. No one has, how can you?’. Most of the time we fail to realize that it comes from our own head, our conscience. We set our own boundaries, judging the circumstances. We obey the limitations created by us ourself, which takes away our chance to work at our full potential. A person who successfully realizes that he/she is capable of doing just anything, the procrastination subsides and that person can think much clearly and act accordingly.

United States of America, a country in North America that declared independence on July 4th, 1776, held their 46th Presidential elections this year. The long process of voting was over on November 3rd and the results were out on the 7th of November, declaring Joe Biden as the 46th elected President of the United States of America. He was the former the vice president country during the presidential years of Mr. Barak Obama and he described him as “The best Vice President of the country.”

History was created, but the spotlight was on the 46th elected Vice President of the United States of America, Ms. Kamala Harris. Being elected as the first ever female Vice President of the country, Kamala Harris has become an inspiration and a ray of hope for a lot of people, not just in the United States, but all over the world. Being the first female Vice President after 45 males who held the same position in itself shows the power that she holds, the power that every woman holds in this world.

“I may be the first woman in the office, but I won’t be the last”, said Kamala Harris, in her first address to the nation as the Vice President of the United States. Her first address to the nation clearly shows that she is here to run a country but thrives to inspire women all around the world. The inspiration that Kamala Harris has become is one of a kind and a very effective one. After the declaration of results there was an uproar on all the platforms on social media, showing the support of the youth. This victory became a global news in no time exhibiting a wave of joy. This marked a political display of women empowerment and is without a doubt, historical. ”

This note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” This is a line from the greatest speech of all time, by Martin Luther King Jr. I have a dream. Several years after the independence, when slavery was abolished but the black community had to fight for their rights, phrases like ‘all men’ ‘black men’ was used for the citizens that they fought for. But women existed for as long as men have. Why weren’t their rights taken into consideration? The fact that they didn’t find women’s rights important enough to fight for, tells us a lot about the conditions of women in almost all times.

Ignorance, to rights of women has been a sad part of the world history. But every time a woman is oppressed, they rise back showcasing their power and proving that they are equally capable of doing what a man can do. Women, due to this negligence, learnt to fight for themselves no matter the situation. There several women who’s stories haven’t been told, haven’t been taught and maybe not even remembered but their lives have left a great impact on the world and have led the world to be what it is today “as Americans we all stand on their shoulders” as said by Kamala Harris herself in a speech where she invokes her mother’s memories. “I stand on her shoulders.” she says, that clearly states how she well knows the importance of all the women who sacrifices their lives fighting for the rights and freedom of all women.

Coming from a family of immigrants, with an Indian mother and a Jamaican father, Kamala proved that no dream is unattainable or too ambitious. “I keep thinking about that 25-year-old Indian woman all of 5 feet tall who gave birth to me, on that day she probably could have never imagined that I would be standing before you now and speaking these words.”

Kamala stressed on the idea of a loving family, being it the blood relations or be it the entire country. I guess that is what a woman is blessed with, an enormous amount of emotions, with human values that the society has now stereotyped as feminine. Those values and emotions are what gives humans a sense of what is right and what is not.

Being the first of a kind, to do something is an honourable job and one of them is Kamala Harris. It almost seems ‘normal’ to have male leaders in a country until a woman takes a stand proving them wrong and the country whole-heartedly supports her. This is not just the victory of Joe Biden or Kamala Harris, but every single person that they inspire to dream big, to push their limits. Kamala has paved the way to many more Kamalas who never knew the extent of possibilities but would feel empowered by her very inspiring story.
