2. A Russian military transport plane crashes near Yablonovo, Belgorod Region, Russia, on 24 January. Russia blames Ukraine after military plane carrying POW crashes, killing all 74 on board.
Russia said on Wednesday (Jan 24) that an IL-76 military transport plane crashed in the western Belgorod region, bordering Ukraine, killing all 74 on board. Russian authorities said that the aircraft was carrying at least 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war, six crew members and three guards.
3. A fire broke out in a commercial building in China’s southeastern Jiangxi province on Wednesday, killing at least 39 people and injuring nine others.
