Gandhi Jayanti 2 October is observed as International Day of Non-Violence
International Day of Non-Violence is observed on 2 October to mark the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi who had played an important role in India’s Independence.
On 15 June, 2007, General Assembly adopted a resolution of establishing the International Day of Non-Violence to spread the message of non-violence including education and public awareness.
Lal Bahadur Shastri
(02 Oct 1904 – 11 Jan 1966) was the 2nd Prime Minister of India and a senior leader of the Indian National Congress political party. Deeply impressed and influenced by Mahatma Gandhi (with whom he shared his birthday), he joined the Indian independence movement in the 1920s.
