Delhi: The third phase of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) under Delhi-NCR has been cancelled by the authorities after the substantial improvement in the air quality. The decision comes after the relief to the people after the air quality rating turns from “severe” to “very poor.”
Ventilation improved
Last week, the Delhi-based AQI that had visited the “important” places said that it was “very serious.” The Commission on Air Quality Management (CAQM) has scrapped the restrictions that were imposed at GRAP Stage 3 so as to further reduce the pollutant levels.
Restrictions Relaxed
The government has given permission to continue the construction and construction related activities and services after the stoppage od Phase III program.
1. Construction and construction:
Construction work consisting of highways, aircraft carriers, and public utilities may resume provided that dust control measures are adhered to.
2. Industry Activity:
Industry that uses dirty fuels can resume activity.
3. Brick Kilns and Stone Warehouses:
Units in the NCR that had been closed during Phase III can be resumed
4. Parking fees:
High parking fees, enforced as a way to discourage pollution caused by vehicles, have become normal.
Infrastructure remains the same
Although the restrictions under Part III have been lifted, the steps taken under Parts 1 and 2 of GRAP are in place to not let the situation worsen. These include:
Prohibition of prohibited weeds.
Encouraging the use of public transport.
Water sprinklers on roads to reduce dust.
Public Health and Counseling
Experts have requested citizens to exercise vigilance, as the air quality is still in the “worst” category. Outdoor interaction should be provided to children and elders in greater detail.
The inquiry goes on
CAQM would monitor the air quality and impose further restrictions if conditions worsen. Citizens have been asked to be cooperative by reducing the unnecessary usage of vehicles and observing the pollution control norms.
Measures to fresher air
The reversal of GRAP Stage 3 decisions gives hope to residents of Delhi and NCR. The authorities are committed to long-term solutions, including green policies and strong pollution control measures, to ensure that air quality continues to improve
