Stretching nearly 45 km from West Bengal’s Sivok to Sikkim’s Rangpo, the railway line will have five stations. Notably, Teesta Bazar could be India’s maiden underground halt station.
14. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi on Monday informed that there are chances that Bharatiya Janata Party might field External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman from the constituencies in Karnataka in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) got a shot in its arm in Tamil Nadu on Monday with GK Vasan-led Tamil Maanila Congress announcing its decision to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha poll as part of the coalition. This is the first formal tie-up that the BJP has struck with any Tamil Nadu party for General Elections in the state where it lost erstwhile ally AIADMK in 2023.

1. Hindu prayers will continue in the southern cellar of the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi, the Allahabad high court said on Monday while dismissing a plea that had challenged the district court’s order to this effect.
2. The Calcutta High Court on Monday stayed proceedings for 12 weeks in an FIR registered against a senior official and host of a show at a Bengali news channel over reporting on violence-hit Sandeshkhali.
3. The West Bengal Police has arrested Ajit Maiti, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, in the Sandeshkhali area of North 24 Parganas district. Maiti, who is known to be a close associate of the absconding TMC strongman Shahjahan Sheikh, was arrested after complaints were received regarding land grabbing from villagers.
4. Tripura government has suspended Indian Forest Service officer Pravin L Agrawal following the row over naming a lion and lioness ‘Akbar’ and ‘Sita’, on which a case was filed by the Vishva Hindu Parishad.
5. Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij Monday said the probe into the killing of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD)’s state unit chief Nafe Singh Rathee will be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation even as 12 people including a former MLA were booked in connection with the murder.
6. A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court asked Bharatiya Janata Party MP Pragya Singh Thakur, an accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, to appear before it from Tuesday onwards for recording of statements and warned her of ‘necessary action’ if she fails to do so.
7. Farmers in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh hold tractor march against WTO, joined the tractor march on the call of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM).
The protesting farmers also burnt effigies of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), which, they said, was preventing the Indian Government from procuring farm produce on MSP beyond a certain limit.

1. Yami Gautam’s new Bollywood movie, ‘Article 370’, has been banned in Gulf countries. The ban is likely to hurt its earnings abroad. The movie has been doing well at the box office and has also earned good word of mouth. The reasons for the ban have not been shared by the authorities. The ban in the Gulf is another dampener on the Hindi film industry.
2. The music world mourns the passing of legendary ghazal singer Pankaj Udhas, who died at the age of 72 after a prolonged illness.
3. The Indian film industry director Kumar Shahani, passed away at the age of 83 in Kolkata on Saturday (24 Feb).
4. Bhojpuri singer Chhotu Pandey was among the nine people killed in a collision between a truck, a jeep and a motorcycle in Bihar’s Kaimur district, the police said on Monday. The incident took place on GT Road near Devkali village in Mohania police station area on Sunday evening.

1. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has taken significant stride in bolstering the nation’s air defense capabilities with the development of the Surface to Air Missile for Assured Retaliation (SAMAR-2) missile system. This innovative system leverages repurposed Russian R-27 air-to-air missiles, transforming them into a potent surface-to-air defense solution.
2. Indian Air Chief Marshal V R Chaudhari arrived at Dhaka on Monday for a three day visit. He is visiting Bangladesh at the invitation of Air Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan, the Chief of Air Staff, Bangladesh Air Force. The Indian Air Force Chief is accompanied by a three member delegation team.
The Indian Air Force Chief is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, all three Service Chiefs and meet other senior officers from the Bangladesh Armed Forces. He will also be visiting major Bangladesh Air Force air bases during the course of his visit, according to the Indian High Commission in Dhaka.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has handed over 23 Licensing Agreements for Transfer of Technology (LATOT) to 22 industries in domains including electronics, laser technology, combat vehicles, naval systems and aeronautics. The licences were handed over during a DRDO-industry meet organised at the Maharashtra MSME Defence Expo 2024, Pune.
4. India, Japan Military Conduct Annual Combat Drill The 5th edition Indian Army and Japan Ground Self Defence Forces joint exercise ‘Dharma Guardian 2024’ commenced on February 25th at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan.
5. Several Indians, who worked as support staff to the Russian forces, were discharged following India’s demand, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said.
It said India remains committed, as a matter of “top priority”, to actively pursuing with the Russian authorities all the relevant cases of Indian nationals for an early discharge from the Russian army.
6. The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to ensure that women were granted permanent commission in the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), saying women can’t be left out in 2024.
A three-judge Bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud told Attorney General R Venkataramani after the Centre submitted that there were functional differences in the Indian Coast Guard because of which women officers can’t be given permanent commission unlike the Army, Navy and Air Force.
